    All

Looks for some advice here on a Hotppint WD62 that is not working.

The Washer Dryer is in a house we rent out.

Got a all from the tenant say the machine is not working properly.

When you put it on a wash it runs OK for a while and then gets to a certain point and sounds like the machine is either pumping the water in or out (I guess out because the machine is not overfilling) It carries on doing this, the program dial does not move and the drum stays still.

Someone please help. I have left the tennant without a washing machine and need to fix this for them quickly.

    Any help appriciated

    Thanks
    Ben

If the machine is set directly to spin does the drum revolve and go into spin?

If it does not then there is a good chance the motor brushes have failed.

If the machine washes fine until the first rinse then just sits there with water running in and out at the same time then almost certainly the plumbing is at fault.

The machine will be stuck syphoning. Can be caused by the outlet pipe being to low or being pushed right down into a standpipe. It should be at least 22 inches above the floor and if the outlet hose goes into a standpipe it should go down into the pipe no more that five or six inches.

Jim – Thats for the guidance.

I will need to check if the machine spins. I will get over there tomorrow and check the spin cycle.

The plumbing has not been changed or moved as far as I am aware but I will also check tomorrow.

    Quick Question on the brushes.

If they are worn. How come the drum will turn over to wash but not to spin?

Sorry if this is really stupid but I cannot follow the logic!

Re: Problems with Hotpoint Aquarius 1200 WD62 – Gets Stuck

It most cases the motor will not run if the brushes are worn, its just that setting the machine to spin is the simplest and quickest way to test the motor and brushes, no fill or heater circuits involved.

I have seen instances were the standpipe has not been secured correctly and has fallen over causing the machine to syphon.

Again, the simplest way to test for syphoning as the cause of the problem would be to place the outlet pipe over the sink if that is possible and see if the machine completes its cycle.

UPDATE Re Problems Hotpoint Aquarius 1200 WD62 – Gets Stuck

I have an update on the situation.

I have checked the machine and it fills and drains without problems.

When turning to a spin cycle the problems start.

The spin starts but never really gets going. Its as if the drum gets enough energy to get up to speed but then slows down and stops, this takes around 20-30 seconds.

Does this still sound like the brushes?

    Thanks again

Sadly if you did this test without any clothes in it then it sounds more like a control timer problem. 😥

I have seen it caused by a sticking pressure switch as well on this model.

TBH, if the brushes were at fault it would be unlikely to cope with a full load of washing on the wash cycle.

    Jim

Thanks for your help and advice.

The machine is probably now 5-7 years old, so this may well be the time to replace.

Found a BOSCH WAA24162GB for around £230. Looks like a good bet

The pressure switch is only around £15 to £18. Might be worth giving it a go.

Any Bosch at that price will have the dreaded sealed tub. :rolls:

Jim – I wish I had the time to ‘fix’ it. The issue is the washing machine is in a rented property and the tenant is currently without a washing machine, so I need a solution quickly.

If the Bosch is not great, what is the current recommendation in the £250-£300 bracket?

Sadly at that price the Bosch is as good as it gets. 😥

    A decent machine was £250 to £300 over 25 years ago. 😉

The John Lewis will like as not be a Zanussi, not much to chose between that and the Bosch, really depends what sort of warranty you get,the Bosch should include a two year warranty.
