ParticipantHow to remove a washing machine Drum tub 1 of 4
Talk about training monkeys .. Lok at what I have just spotted that was “Uploaded by Apart4u” to Youtube. No wonder there are so many cowboys/do-it-yourselfers in this trade.

Only looked at the first 2 minutes but how did he get the tub turned round in the cabinet to take the motor off?
Only interested in selling parts and nothing else. Hope they aren’t part of this website.

It’s come up before. :rolls:
IIRC there was someone on here from A4U a while back, they saw that the guys didn’t much like his approach to selling with all the tutorial videos and left never to return so far as I know.
The trouble is with the internet (and other stuff) that once someone thinks that they can gain from allowing freedom of information or, they just have the devilment to put it out there, that’s it. There’s nothing you can do to stop the tide and this is the new reality that we all have to deal with and, compete in.

I watched the whole ten minutes. I thought it was pretty well done, notwithstanding the heavy weather he makes of getting the suspa pins out and the lack of any mention of safety testing.
So what is this thread about? Are you guys worried you’re losing trade from this? I don’t think there’s any need to worry. For one thing, the potential DIYer has to find that video. Secondly, he has to know how to handle tools, otherwise he’s going to give up half way and call you out to rescue him. (I know, it’s a pain. But you can just walk away and he’ll have learned his lesson.)
And the video was uploaded over a year ago and has yet to receive a single comment. 25,000 views yes, but how many of them actually got beyond the first 20 seconds without dying of boredom? And if they did go on to view parts 2, 3, & 4, I think they deserve a medal! If the subsequent parts are as long as the first, then that’ll be about 40 minutes. More time than most people have got to think about how they’re going to deal with a washing machine breakdown. (Plus the hours it will have taken them to find the info. they actually need.)
When was it Chris did his infamous Bosch brush change vid? At that time, I must admit I wasn’t too happy about it. But I can see now that it hasn’t affected my turnover one penny!

Well done Mike, you got it.
It really doesn’t matter in large part. There are more important considerations and, the people that watch this, do all the stuff in it and whatnot well, to be completely blunt, they were never gonna call you anyway.
But, some that might have thought about having a go may well be given pause for thought. As in, perhaps it’s not as simple as they thought it was.
I saw a brilliant comment the other day on an IT forum which I will most likely use as it’s just sublime it went like…
Expert: “What is it you do for a living buddy”
Poster: “I’m an electrician by trade but I can turn my hand to many things”
Expert: “Yeah, well if I was to be asked and then try to rewire a house I’d be real worried about how that was gonna end up but I’m a qualified MCE with twenty years experience on IT but, I guess I could turn my had to wiring a house just like you can fixing computers. I’ll find a forum or a video on YouTube, that’ll make me an expert electrician I guess.”
The OP offered no response. 😆
It was the ultimate put down, just superb.

Well said Kwatt.
Bottom line is you can’t get worried about this stuff.
Every DIYer is going to try if they think they can, they are either not your customers, or they are going to call if they stuff it up.Car mechanics can’t really complain if I fix my own car, not everyone pays gardeners or lawn mowers either. Tool repair, plumbing, brick paving etc etc.
I won’t mention electrical stuff, you guys have got it good there. It’s a real bogeyman here because it is illegal to touch anything electrical here in Australia, so more trades get a free ride if the equipment is electrical.
Appliance repair and brown goods trades need an ‘electrical workers’ license just to repair. Electricians need own license and to work under someone with a ‘contractors’ license for supervision if they are installing new circuits. So top dog means an apprenticeship to become an electrician, then further study and exams to get the contractors license so you can be self employed.
They really are scared of electricity down here, but don’t care how many dodgey cars out there are self maintained for some weird reason.
But anyway, the main point is you don’t hear about mechanics moaning about all the self help available out there.
It’s not just a youtube video either, but it’s a full industry making money supplying car repair information in heaps of magazines, books, service manuals and forums too. But the mechanics still get work… -
