upright freezer not cooling

Gooday hope youcan help.2002 electrolux 20+” pulls 9.5 too 10.00 amp’s for approx.30sec every 3 minutes+- checked the start cap 15uf it appears to be good…I think it the comp.controller can it be tested? do you have to replace the entire comoressor? thanks in advance Amos..

You might like to check the start relay on the compressor 😉

Always pull the plug before testing.

Thank’s for the reply .I might be confused ,but I tested the start capacitor an it appears to be good..Is that what your referring to as a start relay.. thanks Clive for your patience…Amos

No…the relay is used to switch between the start winding (with capacitor) and the run winding in the compressor. It is usually fitted directly to the compressor and may be either a coil type electromagnetic device, or more usually these days a PTC or solid state device.
If this fails then the compressor won’t run, it rapidly overheats it’s protection device with the large current draw you described. This will cool and reset after two or three minutes.

Clive I unplugged the unit off the compressor /cut the two leads an will try to get a replacement tomorrow..Hope this fixes it Its only 2 or 3yr old an belongs to our Church… I’ll let ya know ..U Da Man. thanks Amos

Nice try Clive ..I installed the new control reley today..I’m getting the same response as before compresser kicks on 17 sec then off for 3 minutes.. amos
