ParticipantOver the last two years we have had three episodes of our Frigidaire upright freezer showing the red warning light. We frantically run round our neighbours begging freezer space.
I turn off the freezer and let it defrost overnight( bearing in mind it is a frost free freezer) and in the morning the drip tray is full of water. I lean the freezer over and pour the water out and switch it back on and away it goes, works as normal.
This weekend it happened again, only this time no water, bone dry. Switched it back on to no avail, still red light. Switched it off overnight, only this morning the tray was full of water, emptied it out and the freezer is now freezing and no red light. Surely it could not have accumulated that much water in one night….was it storing it somewhere inside and decided to dump it a day later?
Anyone got any ideas, please?

It would appear you have a problem with the auto defrost in the freezer, hence the over icing then lack of airflow causing warning light to come on. Could be as simple as the drain blocking with ice or heater, sensor, timer or saftey device failed.

Hi
This is a simple mechanical timer and thermostat model. it will probably be the defrost heater/thermal fuse/defrost timer/defrost termination.
It has 2 defrost thermal fuses,a drain heater and defrost heater.simple to test each item.Bryan

Bryan
Many thanks for this info. I certainly take your advice about it being simple to check, simple for someone like you who knows what they are talking about.
I think I will call in the local engineer who advertises in our village magazine, he reckons he doesn’t charge a call out fee. I will then see if he thinks along the same way as you.
I just love forums, there is always someone willing to spread their knowledge for the benefit of others.
Many thanks Bryan.
