ParticipantWe need some urgent advice about a Hotpoint washing machine. Our customer is very distressed and we are at a loss with the fault. Please see details below – any help would be most appreciated.
Hotpoint washing machine
WMEF742PFilling when not in use.
The solenoid valve has been changed twice.
Machine is cold fill only.
Customer leaves the door open when not in use.
Customer switches machine off at wall when not in use.
Filling with clean water.
No back-fill from drain or elsewhere.
No other apparent fault. The customer is emotionally fragile and this issue has been going on for some time but we cannot figure out what is causing the problem.

What is the water pressure like? A low water pressure will allow water to seep past the diaphragm in the solenoid and my guess would be this.

Our engineer doesn’t believe it’s low water pressure but we are going out again tomorrow (tenth time!) so will check again. Severn Trent Water has also attended and said there is nothing wrong with her water supply.

A bit of a long shot but you could try removing the flow restrictor, the small rubber ring that sits under the gauze filter. I often pull these out with some long nosed pliers if the water pressure is very low.

We’ve just been back to this machine and checked the pressure – 4.5 bars. The manual states the machine works on a minimum of 0.5 bars and maximum of 10 bars.
We are completely stumped now. Can anyone shed any more light on this fault?
