Does anyone know if the Numatic cleaners can cope with cleaning the ash from multifuel stoves or, any cleaner that can otherwise cope.

Having our own wood burner we have been faced with the same problems.
Using a bagless machine will burn out the motor on the machine due to the nature of whats getting picked up.We opted for medium sized bag machine and once the machine starts to lose suction replace the paper bag,Infact the vac we use is an old (ish) Electrolux and have been using it for over 8 years.
so any well made bagged vac will do.

Sold a couple of Henry’s to a chimney sweep company couple of months ago who reckon it’s the best machine they have ever had.

Hi,
Sorry everybody but a bagged vac will not do, this is a specialist job 😉 . For this task, especially if there is alot of ash to deal with you would need a special micro-filter/type H hazadous dust vac. Numatic make both.
There are two reasons for this, the filtration system is not strong enough to hold back such a large quantity of dust, which just blows out of the machines exhaust around your room and straight in to your lungs and secondly the machines motor may be damaged by dust getting into the workings.

http://www.numatic.co.uk/products4.aspx?id=261Both these machines use the standard Numatic filtration (which is excellent BTW) and also on top of that have a HEPA (High Efficiency Particle Arrester) filter to protect the motor and the air you are breathing.

Hey Oliver! Henry IS Numatic, HENRY has HEPA
Heaven help the poor publican cleaning out his fire grate in the morning. Or the hard grafting chimney sweep that would risk breathing in such harmful pollutants without such invaluable protection from good old HENRY…eh? 😉

Henry has Hepaflo dust bags, it has not got HEPA filtration. 😉
The Hepaflo bags far more effective than any paper bag, even the good ones, but no Henry has HEPA, there is a microfiltration model called funnily enough Henry Micro, but it has a static charged filter, it is very good but still not strong enough for this type of useage.
Oh aye and I DO know who makes Henrys, I have one me self you know! 😆

Oh blimey Oliver I didn’t know that, thanks. I’d better dash across the road and tell the local landlord to beware of potential static discharges when he uses his Henry!

hi all,
I have a multi fuel stove and have minimal amounts of ash from coal as i have an ash pan unlike woodburners. Do you think an ordinary henry or numatic will suffice when i decide to purchase a new vac?
The numatic factory is only 15 miles from me actually 😀

I must confess to very tentatively using my dyson for this job at the moment, takes ages as i do it slowly a bit at a time in the hope of not clogging the motor. Has worked with regular filter washes/changes but obviously i will need to purchase something else soon. I have infact got 2 older seconhand dyson cyclinder style vacs which have coped for over 8 years, so far i hasten to add 😉

If it is for minimal amounts only and no more I would suggest you get a Henry Micro (has much finer filtration) and use it with Hepaflo dust bags. A normal Henry is not suitable and the Micro model dosen’t cost much more either.

Minimal amounts? Don’t waste your money on another vacuum cleaner then. (You’ve spent enough already with the 1607 and the prospect of a new ISE vented dryer coming up.) So, my advice, for what it’s worth, ashpan deposits spread on your veggie patch ( essential potash for your spuds and runner beans ) Dustpan and brush for any overspill then a quick suck around with your old Dyson and the job’s a good ‘un. 😀
