ParticipantRecently an elderly customer drove into the side of our vehicle parked outside the premisis, not much damage just a slight crease in drivers side door.
It was like slow motion you could see it was going to happen but could do nothing about it. :rolls:
How the hell he thought he could get in that gap was beyond me. 😕He was seen by us and admitted liablity.
Took all his details and passed it onto insurance broker, they then gave me phone numbers for approved repair garage and help hire for vehicle while in garage.Spent over an hour just giving all the details to insurance company followed by another hour by the help hire people 👿
Well p**sed off why the hell I have to repete all the information again when already gave it to insurance company in the first place and why is it i have to waste my time when it wasnt even my fault 😡Can i claim loss of earings for this time, and time in taking the the van to and from the garage?
Did have an option that the other party insurance did agree to do everything replacement van and garage repairs etc without going thro my insurance.
When itold my insurance company this they said I still would have had to disclose this to them as it would have invalidate my insurance. To top it off insurance runs out in a couple of weeks just had a renewal price of nearly a GGrand 😯
phoned them up to check they had it right as it was £450 previously, they said it was because of a claim just made…
yes I said but it wasnt my fault and the other person insurance company has already admitted liability so why the hell should I be penalised for this. 😡
They said this is normal and once the other party have paid up I will get a refund. But why should I pay double in the mean time even for a couple of months until I get it back?
Never claimed before so is this the norm, or are we getting ripped off.I am annoyed that you pay so much to these insurance companies and you have to do all the leg work 😕
They are a law unto themselves.

If they’ve offered you a refund get it in writing. Not a lot of point in seeking a better deal while the claim is in progress.

I’m with Direct Line. I had something similar a couple of years when at the front of a 3 car shunt. I did have protected NCB so I don’t know if that made a difference but Direct Line handled it all with the minimum of fuss. I didn’t get a loan vehicle though so perhaps it would have been worthwhile doing it through the 3rd (or 4th?) party insurer.

Was parked outside a customers house last Friday, removing obstruction from integrated dishwasher. Job went swimmingly but on returning to my charriot was greeted with the sight of the drivers door mirror in a thousand bits 👿
Not only that but he/she had hit it at such a speed it damaged the chrome trim strip at the base of the window.
I didnt hear a thing in the house & nor did my customer, drove around for half an hour looking for someone with a damaged N/S mirror on their car but no luck.My only solace was finding the remains of their mirror glass & noticing it was a heated unit.. i do hope it costs them a packet.
Hope i can get one in a breakers, but still got to get it painted unless i can find an exact match. Some people shouldnt be let loose on the roads 👿

ditto
It happened to me in Feb this year, except the elderly gent hit my n/s side panel. 3 weeks getting fixed in the garage, with new side, new signwrighting, a crappy hire van. I was not happy.
A week after I got it back, I went to my local Ford garage for an MOT, and guess what , it failed with numerous electrical faults. It turned out that the body shop people has almost cut through 10 wires, causing alsorts of shorting. The only thing was that it took the MOT garage 2 days to find all the faults. And non of it was my fault. Old and dodery drivers should be banned.

From my experience I agree with Chris….get that refund in writing. Who is your insurance company?

Insurer NIG broker CVD (commercial Vehicle Direct)
Dont think will be insuring with them again.
Spent 2 hours taking van in for estimate, yesterday as well.
Making sure that all the times making phone calls and other time lost is noted.

Had quite the opposite experience from my insurers.
Neighbours daughter backed into my old berlingo van and put a dent about the size of a football in the side panel. Insurers wrote it off, offered me £1800 and the van back. Nearly bit thier hands off 🙂
Two months later a woman ran into the back off me, slightly damaging the underside. Insurers wrote it off again and offered me £750 this time (as it was technically a write off when it was hit) and the van back again. Bit thier hand off again 🙂
Still driving it now, will get bigger van this year 🙂
