Hi,
I know this has been on before but I can’t get it from search.
I have been looking at online van decals but don’t really know how to design something for my van, the usual thing, picture of a washing machine, who I am and what I repair and phone nos.
Has anyone any advice and who have you used or is it better to go to a pro and get it done?

i just started up myself and as money was tight and the van is only for shortterm i got this done on the cheap via a guy from fleabay 😳
its actually alright, i didnt bother about a logo or pictures just simple text but imo it does the job certainly better than a blank van, only cost me around £30…..

I used http://www.tradegraphics.co.uk where I could design on line, view what my vehicle would look like and price at the same time.
cost me about £100 last year but has paid me back more that it cost me

I got mine done from a local company i wanted pictures as well as sign writing, to catch the eye cost me a about £240 i got what i wanted designed by him and a local firm got a bit of business, he has put a fair bit my way also plus my van has done me proud as well.

Thanks for the link. I got some from the same supplier and have started sticking them on this afternoon. As practice, I started with the small ones on the back doors before attempting the side ones, which are about 4 feet long. I think I will leave the side ones until we either get a windless day or I can do them in a garage. It does not take much wind to make them quite unwieldy, once the backing paper is removed and you are trying to apply them.

i done them with no wind, just make sure the surfaces are clean and de-greased otherwise they wont stick very well…

hi A1 engineer… a little off topic, just had a look at ur site and seen:
“We offer a free call out and estimate, with fixed price labour charges”.
Just wanted to know how u work this one?
If u called to a customer.. turned out needed new pump.. u tell the customer.. they decide they dont want it repairing..
Do u walk away then with not a penny in the pocket?Re: Van signwriting

i have just started out and have zero client base as such i need to offer something the other companys dont, if i had a choice i would charge a call out, but until i have enough work to pay my morgage and bills etc i dont really have much choice…..
i know many on here dont agree with this method but im giving it a go and will see how mcuh work i get.

Well i dunno what to say really… i know ive done this on the odd occasion but only when ive been to someone who i can see is really struggling financially… but not often…
went to a house other day , they rang me… moaning and groaning that if it was gonna be a right off that they were not happy that i would still charge them 30 quid for my time etc.. i knew by the symtom over the phone it was a straight forward blockaed pump job and assured them it would only be 30 quid.. they thought i was cocky that i knew the fault on the phone.. i had to reassure them that 22 years in the business i can sometimes know the fault without looking..
got there.. big flash brand new house, porche and a bmw on the drive.. blocked pump =£ 30 quid i charged.. got a cheque and they apparently couldnt find their card to input the numbers on the cheque.. i wait to see if it bounces..
I have never been able to afford my own house nevermind them kind of cars…
I now make it clear.. its £30 regardless… if they dont like it.. GO ELSEWERE ( I POLITELY TELL THEM ) theres too many people out there that expect u to do things for nothing.. and the joke is.. it always seems to be the ones that seem to have a bottomless pit of money at their disposal.. the ones that seem to struggle on in life always seem to be the good ones IMO..
So now i prefer to lose the job than to waste my fuel and time for nothing.Re: Van signwriting
I’ve never gone down the “no call-out charge” route but at one time I advertised “Washing machine repairs from £20”. This might be an alternative to consider. The only times I don’t charge are if I decline a job because the outlay on spares is too risky. For example, I went to a 2 year old Whirlpool which appeared to have a faulty module. I was not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain it was the module though and the board was too expensive to take a gamble on ordering one that could probably not be returned.
