Very strange drain issue

Hi there.

i have an LG D1484CF

it is driving me insane!

it has an intermittent drain problem. Sometimes it drains and cycles fine, other times it comes up OE and you have to pull the machine out and lower the drain hose until you hear a bit run out and then put it all back and it works again! I can’t get my head around it and can not think of what it is. I’ve changed the pump for a genuine new one and I’ve swapped the washing machine and dishwasher over so I know it’s not the house drain. I’ve sucked on the drain pipe and there’s nothing in it… I just don’t get why it will work 2 out of three times and the 3rd time you have to almost let a bit cyphon out before the pump will happily pump it all out again.

anyway thanks for the help in advance and if I can get to the bottom of it I won’t keep having to kick the bloody thing!

try to re route hose

has the hose been extended ?

Hosé hasn’t been extended, I thought that. Guessing there has to be water around the fins of the pump for it to actually drain otherwise it just spins in free air?

any other reasons why it would air lock?

some pump and drain systems have small pipes off the pumps or drain pipes to allow air to escape and stop air locks. if these pipes block it stops it draining

I’ll have to take it apart again. I think from memory just two pipes on the drain pump though a in and out. I’ll see if there is any other pipes.

if there is a soap box concertina pipe (breather pipe) to the tank check that for blockade especially the tank end – have had them seal over there with gunk . For a strange reason I cannot get the parts diagram up online for some reason – won`t recognise your model number. You might also want to check the sump hose – remove it from the tank and check the tank area and hose for potential blockages there too. Failing that, you say you changed the pump, complete pump as a unit or just a pump motor? Could still be outlet hose too

Thanks for your help. From memory the tank is back left a pipe goes from that to the pump and a few come off it and go in various places. I have to have the machine on its head to do the work and it’s fiddly as I just pull the bottom up enough for me to get in and mess around.. yeah I changed just the pump but took the housing off and there was no visible blockages in there. I’ll stick a pipe cleaner down the places I can and see if that helps. A diagram would be brilliant but if you can’t do it no problem. Would a similar model not be the same?
