Yesterday my 10 year old Siemens Extraklassee 1100 stopped working 10 minutes into its washing cycle. It threw the main power switch in the house. This morning I switched the machine on, emptied the water and was able to open the door. I started the washing cycle again and there was a repeat of the occurence of last night in that the machine stopped 10 minutes into it’s cycle and again tripped the main switch to the house electricity suppply.

I guess I have two qquestions. What do forum members feel is likely to be the problem with the machine and would it be economically viable, bearing in mind it is 10 years old and that I am not qualified in any way to effect a d-i-y solution, to call a qualified engineer to investigate and possibly effect a repair. Thanks.

Most likely the heater is at fault from what you describe, not going to be too expensive if thats what it turns out to be, they were a decent appliance, so if its in good condition i’d go down the route of at least phoning for a quotation from an engineer.

Thanks, Seamy. I called Siemans this morning and received the following quotation-

Call out and all labour = £89.00
Cost of new heating element = £57.00
    Total repair cost £146

Given the age of the machine I think we’ll bin it and buy a new one.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi

Why not try an independent engineer, job will be cheaper.

Ditto to that thought….we independents can do the same job for literally HALF that quoted price.

Simply check HERE for someone in your neck of the woods.:D
