ParticipantI am sure i remember seeing something similar to this before, but have done a pretty good search on the site and couldnt find it, so. we currently accept card payments via a manual input terminal and wanted to see if we can set up a virtual terminal – taking payments via the internet through one of the many providers. wondered if anyone is using a system/provider that they could recommend, with a decent pricing and service structure.

Dont forget that once you setup to handle such payment methods that it must be run by the strict PCI DSS rules, this covers your entire trading environment, all third-party partners that store, process or transmit data must also comply before you can achieve full compliance.
Third parties include:
Resellers Till vendors, EPOS vendors Software application providers Payment service providers Payment ,processing bureaux, Data storage providers, Web hosting providers, Shopping cart providers, Software vendors. Its a minefield for the small business and if you are subject to fraud which as you are probably aware seems to be on the increase on the internet since chip & Pin arrived, there are large fines if it is found that your payment system, data or online security is not properly secured and validated and meets the requirements of PCI DSS.
Big companies and Corporations have dedicated departments that setup such things and continually police them and even they get caught out with fraud.
I am not suggesting that you dont go down this road but if you are not aware of these requirements it may well be an idea to find out and your merchant services would be a good place to enquire. Just because you may use a external payment gateway anyone accepting remote, telephone or over the counter card payments are subject to these rules.
We have recently become fully compliant and used a company recommeded by our merchant service by the name of Security Metrics.October 30, 2009 at 9:34 am #300684bazza6
