Another good free one to consider is Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition (http://www.free-av.com).
I have been using it together with ZoneAlarm for some time.

Slightly off topic but since I got an anti virus that actually works I’ve noticed that when I open SIOS it tries to get on the web and make contact.
Whats going on there then ❓Steve

In reply to the last post, apparantly The Adaptive Server Anywhere Database Engine is trying to act as a server, whatever that means. I always deny it access and it never seems to prevent SIOS from working.
Going back to the topic, I stoped using Norton because it eats up system resources and let a couple of viruses through. I now use the following: AVG antivirus, Zonealarm firewall, Ad-aware SE personal for spyware removal and CCleaner which is a PC optimization tool. It combines a system cleaner that removes unused and temporary files from your system and also a fully featured registry cleaner. This means that Windows runs faster, more efficiently, and gives you more hard disk space.
There don`t seem to be any incompatability issues, and best of all, these programs are easy to use and available free at http://www.download.com

To give it its original name, CrapCleaner 😆 is very good, I have used it for years. You do need to read the tutorial and be careful what you select for deletion. It will wipe out all your passwords and login details from any site that you visit., not a problem if you have a good memory or keep a record of them.
One thing it does do is clear out index.dat files, these files are hidden deep inside Windows and record all your online activities, a boon for all those of you that visit the ‘naughty sites’ 😉 8)
A good registry cleaner is a vital tool to help your system run smoothly as well.

I use Nod32 for my antivirus. I back that up with Comodo (free) firewall to control all network activity, and use Tracks Eraser Pro to clear out all temp files and cache.
That is just some of my security software.March 7, 2007 at 3:59 pm #204684iadom

Think I might try Tracks Eraser, according to this it has a Teat mode. 😆 I’m all for a bit of that. 👿
