vtd00p info needed please

i have an hotpoint aquarius vtdoop dryer that wont spin,i took lid of to look at it and when i turn it on if i move the barrel slightly it start spinning ok but stops when it goes in reverse action until i move again.
i have had a look around at various posts and most seem to think i capacitor would solve the problem,would this be the case or is it the motor
