Replace the motor brushes.

i think on some of these once the brushes are replaced you have to reset the machine to clear the code or f21 will still show

if it will not reset you will find the pwer board has blown

You enter F21 reset in the search box of this forum and then read the many posts on the subject. 😉

Did my first F21 today. Brushes were down and I assumed all would be well after replacing them having read all these posts before going.
But somehow the reset trick doesn’t work for me 🙁 .
I forgot to look at the model no. 😳 but it was defo a 2008 machine with the super soft touch buttons which don’t feel as though they move at all. Was I pushing too hard on the spin button? Help! Is it time to get the board out?
Customer (a charity sheltered housing project for elderly – about 15 people use the machine.) went straight out and bought another one as she (the manageress) was quite impressed with this one having lasted three years with no problem till now. She let the delivery guys take away the old Hotpoint WMA which had had a few breakdowns and whose bearings had been suffering last time I looked at it a year ago. I would have had the board off that if I’d got up earlier.
Anyway, if you’re around alro, can you elaborate on the blown board story for us? And has anyone else had this?

Edit: Have to say I’m impressed that there’s one manufacturer out there sticking to a design that has worked well for some years although they could have made life so much easier for us by drilling a hole or two in the lower back panel to improve access to the motor bolts. I guess they haven’t been reading my posts.

They’re not “super soft touch buttons” at all Mike but merely contact ‘pads’ that rely on the capacitance of your finger/body to charge the circuit into life. Hence the slightest, most delicate touch from your skillful finger will bring forth life to an otherwise dormant circuit.

Could well be the case if holding the spin button whilst turning the knob from 6 to 7 didn’t work? Mind you, if the motor has taken out the module it’s a BER job for sure. 🙁

Please tell me you bought a 10mm ratchet ring spanner and have been using one for years since you muted the idea of drilling holes in the cabinet? 😕 🙂 😉

Er.. I did buy one but not till a few days ago off ebay and it isn’t here yet. TBH, I have managed fine with tilting machine forward over the years. Yesterday, because the only surface on which to rest it using that method was a hot radiator I decided to lay the machine down on its side and work from underneath. It was that that brought home to me just how much hard work those self tappers into plastic are when approached from a sideways angle. A ratchet spanner, whilst a help, would not change the amount of force required to turn them. I maintain my position that a couple of 8mm holes would do no harm and Bosch would even save a couple of million quid on metal over the next twenty years by instigating them now. But hey, as I said, you can’t expect these too big to fail industrialists to see good common sense and read my posts more carefully. 😆

Oh well, looks like I’m going to have another interesting electronics problem to look at for the next week then. Beats emptying pump filters for a living anyway. Dunno why the motor would do that mind, armature looked fine, although one brush was about 10mm long still 😕 .
Hmm… wonder if I’m not getting a circuit through the new brushes for some reason? I’m sure I pushed them right in but could be something to look at. I’ll go down there for another look when this b***y rain stops.

To think all these years you have suffered not only with cycling in the pouring rain but also without the ease of use of a simple 10mm ratchet ring spanner…..I dunno….

I’ve got a spare set chucking around here somewhere I could post to you if eBay lets you down. 🙂

Thanks Martin for your generous offer. I’m sure Ebay won’t let me down, the seller’s got great feedback.
What I would like is a rechargeable drill good enough to drill an 8mm hole quickly in sheet metal and light enough to add no more than 200g to my toolbag. I guess I’ll just have to wait till battery technology catches up with my dreams 🙂 .
I don’t cycle in the rain if I can help it. That’s why I’ve been sitting here most of the last few days 🙂 .
