KeymasterHi there,
Firstly, nice site and great that there’s people like you about to help people like me out!!
Anyway, to my problem. My fridge isn’t cooling (at all, it seems). I can’t seem to hear any noise from it. There’s definately power to it as the light is illuminating when the door’s open.
From reading other posts, I think it might be the thermostat (?) – is there any way that I can diagnose this for sure? Or is there any other possibilities that I should also look for?
By the way, I don’t have an instruction manual so please be as descriptive as possible!!!
Thanks very much.

Ok, I’ve taken the light / thermostat box off and removed the thermostat. Apparently, it’s possible to check whether it’s faulty by bridging 2 of the wires – which ones?? The terminals are numbered so I’d be grateful if someone would let me know which ones before I blow the house up! 😆
Thanks.

Stop !!!
Live testing with disconnected leads is not the way to go and dangerous :zap:
Check the thermostat for continuity with a meter or ask an engineer to do it for you Repairs@
Power off at all times while working on the unit please.
Dave.

Cheers for the reply Dave.
Power was, and is, off. Whilst I haven’t got the life of riley, life isn’t so bad as to risk working with a live electrical item!! 😆
I assume a meter reading will not show a reading if the thermostat is faulty?
Or is there a way to bypass the thermostat in order to check that no other part is faulty other than using a meter?
Just out of interest, the light seems to be connected to the thermostat unit – why?
Dave.

The thermostat at the simplest level is just a switch, a make/break contact. If the thermostat is turned to the “0” or off position, the contacts should be open, turn it all the way to 5 and they should make the circuit. The fridge light uses the thermostat as a convenient live supply and is usually just a spur.
I regret that for the reasons outlined at the top of the forum we cannot give you specific advice; hopefully this will give you some guidance.
Please ensure the power is off if you wish to do further testing.
Regards,

Thanks for the guidance Dave and Penguin, much appreciated.
The problem was indeed the thermostat. Under a tenner to rectify so I’m a happy chap! 😀
Once again, thanks for the help.
Dave.
