Ive posted here rather than legal matters because the end result was NFA no further action.

Ive repaired appliances now for 32 years…with breaks in between…this is a first for me, lastnight i got arrested at my home, carted to the cells while my home got searched..i repaired a dryer in a customers home 9 days ago… while i was there the home owner ( ruddy mansion ..huge ) was cutting a childs hair while hes mum watched.. so assume she has clients doing visits to her home .. she has misplaced some rings .. and i got accused of stealing them…

All ended well but im devasted, this could of ruined my business rep.. and ive built my rep to a phenominal height reviews wise etc…

This ever happened to anyone else? I will now be wearing a camera to every house i call to.

Thoughts please ( getting fed up to the bath teeth of the way the private sector treat people who they call to do something for them )

never heard this before from any engineer. I like you pride myself on my honesty well apart from some government agencies. Have often been left alone in houses with thousands of pounds worth of property

pity you cant sue for wrongful arrest and damaging accusation

have you asked the police if you can press charges ?

I havnt yet dave, ive asked them to let me know the outcome/end result, its shocking mind, as from the outset they were talking to me like a criminal, talking down to me, kinda thing… im still fuming, didnt sleep at night etc.. im just glad CID seen sense tbh… but my faith in humans has diminished some more.
i also collect keys from landlords, letting agents etc and visit sites totally alone..im 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} genuine and trustworthy, this really has shook me but rattled me more

I think I dodged a bullet a few years ago whilst repairing a built in dishwasher, pulled off the kickboard and there was a very expensive looking ring laid on top of the dust and fluff.
I handed it over to the customer who said “Oh we lost that 2 years ago and claimed it on the insurance”
Absolute bollocks, the ring was clean and embedded in the dust as if it fell in there yesterday.
I think I was being tested or set up.

I personally hate what has happened to you whilst working for my previous employer one of the engineers got accessed of stealing a expensive watch as he was fixing a dryer upstairs in customers house and they had to go out. I personally hate the fact of no one being at the property I attend for that reason I also pride myself on my reputation and reliability and in these challenging times where people where supposed to stay2 meters apart our job has been made much more difficult, like dave said don’t lose any sleep over it, just think of the old saying we learn something new everyday kai

I once attended a washing machine, dragged it out to find a ‘large brown envelope’ honestly it really was.:D It was rammed with £20 notes over £2000 as it turned out. I alerted the chap who let me in and he was extremely grateful for my honesty. Apparently his wife was in a residential home suffering from dementia. For a while before that she had taken to hiding money all over the house. They were old style notes and the old chap didn’t even have a bank account so I took them to my bank who exchanged them for current £20 notes for him.

I’m not sure about the body camera thing. I imagine the rules for video recording in customers homes are very stringent. If you don’t comply, very likely the footage would be inadmissable as evidence. As a minimum you need to register with the ICO (even a dashcam used in a business vehicle requires this), and likely need to display warning notices. Customers would be within their rights to demand a copy of your footage.
