ParticipantCan someone please give advice? I have insurance on my hotpoint washer dryer, not that I ever yse the dryer. Had engineer out with my currys insurance several times and 2 weeks ago they came and placed a whole new board, something burnt out and the wires on the back. It has smelled of fire/burning since, I thought I could smell the previous damage, tonight, the smell got stronger, then all the lights flashed and it’s gone off again. I really dont think it’s safe, can someone advise or tell me what to say to insurance company? It is now coming up to 5 years old…it is a hotpoint washer dryer wd440g

Its really mainly an Indesit, five years is not bad for one of these machines TBH, very poor electronics etc. :rolls:
If you are still covered by your 5 year policy then get them back to repair it properly, then don’t extend the warranty, run it into the ground and don’t buy another washer dryer.
Whatever you do , don’t leave it running unattended if you still get a burning smell. :eeek:
Budget for at least £400 upwards and you may just get something half decent.
A really good machine starts at around the £750 mark.

Make sure that when you speak to the insurance you ask them what the length of guarantee is on the work that they do and also on the new parts that they have fitted.

Thanks for your help both. We paid 490 for the appliance 2006.
Do you think I may have a chance of getting a newmachine? It’s burnt out twice in 2 weeks and previously caught slight fire in back years ago and never

Why should you get a new machine, the washer dryer you bought is a mid to low end product that you have had almost 5 years use of?
Perhaps a small consideration for your recent problems but new machine. 🙁
When I said £400 upwards I was referring to a washer not a washer/dryer.
The only good washer/dryer on the market is a Miele which will cost you north of £1000 in most cases.
As Allsorts says, it depends upon the exact wording of your extended warranty policy.

The machine nearly caught fire 18 months ago an engineer told us we were lucky, it was repaired but never been the same since. The same thing happened 2 weeks ago, they came to repair it but still fire smell, I have used the machine twice since the repair and its burnt out the wires in the back again. That’s my main reason for wanting it to be sorted properly or replaced. Hotpoint is known to most middle class people as a good brancd, if I knew it was an indesit I would not have purchased. Ive lost over £420 from loss of working hours with this machine, paid £470 for it, and also £220 for the insurance. I will not be getting a hotpoint/indesit again.

The Hotpoint brand was taken over by the Indesit Company over 9 years ago. 😥

Hotpoint are still a good brand … but only if you get a refurbished 95 seies, WM/WD or WMA one from a reputable engineer, recycling company, secondhand dealer.

A lot of the WD models are the Indesit soiled machines George, such as this particuler one. 😉
