Hello, thanks for all the great information on this site. I was wondering if anyone could offer advice on buying a new washing machine. My second hand Zanussi WDT1061 washer dryer has stopped working. The drum won’t turn. I have opened the back and the belt and bearings seem functional. I live alone so I only do one or two washes per week. I was looking at the Bosch WAN24282GB for €369. I understand that this is on the cheaper end of things but since I won’t be using it that much I was thinking it might do. I don’t want or need any fancy bells and whistles. Any advice gladly received.

If you are washing for one I would class you as a light user compared to some. I would look at the Beko range.

Hi Don, thanks for taking the time to reply. What would be the advantage of a Beko over the Bosch model I mentioned? They are cheaper unless I want Bluetooth and such, which I don’t need. One example would be WTL74051 at €320. 50 cheaper than the Bosch. It has an induction motor. Is that just an gimmick that adds complexity and more chance of breaking down?

Beko are nice and easy to work on, spares are cheaper if and when needed. Of course the price is cheaper but I find the life span is similar to Bosch.

Probably all that has gone wrong with your machine is the brushes have worn out in the motor, remove them and have a look- the carbon bits should be worn right down with a matt black running face, when new the brushes are roughly abot 1.5 inches long. There are several brushes it could be because there are several different motors they could have used. Not that difficult to find out, just match up the brushes to a picture having typed in your model number. A bit of detective work could save you a great deal of spons for not much effort.
