Washing machine fault

I’ve got a whirlpool washing machine AWOD5556 and just recently it’s been making a dreadful noise it sounds like the drum has dropped and is scrapping on something, the other night it made a loud bang, opened the door and there was a faint smell of smoke if you could help me out on what it could be and how to fix it would be a massive help! 😀

Sounds like the bearings have failed, which is a major repair job.

Is it worth fixing it or buying a new washing machine?

By the sounds of it the drum’s dropped and hit the heater so it likely won’t be cheap to repair.

If it’s any more than a few years old it may be better to look at replacement.

We brought it off someone for £30 as we just moved into our first place haven’t got the money for a new one 🙁
