washing machine filling

    i have a washing machine in a static caravan,the problem is it is filling with clean water when the main inlet supply is turned off.when we leave the van each weekend the supply to the machine is turned off and when we return the following weekend the drum is full and overflown out of the soap draw.neither maintenance staff or machine technitions can solve the problem.i need help fast as this is rotting woodwork in the caravan.

    Okay, if the main water in is isolated and not on to the machine then the water has to come from somewhere.

    The only other place it can come from is the drain through backfilling.

    But… the water would not then rise above the level o the drain, gravity and all that comes into play making that impossible.

    And, likewise, if it was getting water from the mains supply even were it on then it shouldn’t fill above the drain either.

    So it doesn’t really matter how slice it, either what you describe should be not possible to happen, something is very wrong with the installation or, there’s something wrong with the plumbing.

    The stopcock isn’t shutting off properly. If it is one of those with a blue lever you turn through 90degs to shut it off then without looking I know that is where the fault lies. To prove it simply disconnect the hose from the washing machine and see.

    While your replacing the stopcock you might as well replace the fill valve on the machine too for double security against further flood outbreaks. 😉
