ParticipantHello,
I’ve posted in the washing machine help forum, but I suspect I may have to buy a new machine so looking for some advice while I’m here!
We are a family of 7 and do at least 2 loads per day. I’m looking for a machine that can cope with heavy use. The programmes I use are 60C cotton for towels & bedding, 30/40C normal clothes wash, woollens and delicates programme. A programme for proofing or washing outdoor waterproofs would be nice, as well as a “quick wash” for small loads, but not essential. The ability to pause & add to a load would be useful, as would a drum light. I’m not interested in wifi, timed or delayed starts or auto-dose systems.
Budget is £1000 but could stretch a wee bit more if it would be an advantage. I’m looking for a reliable machine with longevity & can be repaired fairly easily if needed. I’m guessing Miele fits this bill, but not sure if they are as good as they once were, or if I’d get the same from a Siemens or Bosch?
Current machine giving me problems is a mid-range Bosch. Before that I had a Siemens that lasted 9yrs!
Any advice gratefully received – thanks!

ModeratorIt’s well documented on here via the search facility that Miele are the best of what is currently on offer. I would start by looking at the WWD320 and up as they have replaceable bearings if needed. Models below this are sealed tubs.
With that sort of workload ( the average being three per week) I would consider this machine and up and extend the warranty with Miele.

ParticipantMiele all the way.
I’ve had my Miele 4 yrs. Family of 4 (teens who produce lots of washing). I’ve got an entry model (cheapest) & it does the job brilliantly. Stain removal is excellent, never use Vanish, no need, let Miele do it’s job.
Everything comes out less creased so less ironing! Don’t have to iron Hoodies, school trousers/skirts etc.
Prior to the Miele I also had a Siemens, lasted 8 yrs. It had lots of bells & whistles, drum light too. It washed well but after having a Miele it made me realise that I didn’t need bells & whistles. My Miele is very basic, looks like something out of the 70s but boy, it’s an amazing machine & without a shadow of doubt, I will by another Miele when it needs replacing. You really pay what you get for.

ParticipantI would look at the models that have got ‘power wash’
the programmes are long on Miele, especially if you are doing several washes a day, power wash will be of benefit you.

ParticipantThanks all.
Hopefully I can salvage my current machine (it’s only 2yrs old!) but this is good info incase I need to buy a new one soon.

ParticipantCrieky, your current machine only 2 yrs old! When the time comes, at least you can purchase a new machine quickly without having to do any leg work.
My Miele allows you to add items before the water level becomes too high.
You won’t be disappointed with Miele.

ParticipantI’ve always wanted a Miele (have a Miele tumble dryer I got in a sale) but could never stretch to one. I had a recent windfall which is why I’m thinking it might be better to invest in one now while I can afford one!
My current Bosch has the pause & add feature – it’s great!

On average use the OP machine is already over 8 years old so it has done very well.
Circa 14 loads a week, most manufacturers would look at this as commercial use, we know it isn’t as it’s for a family.

Hi Don,
my sister-in-laws Samsung has packed up after 8 yrs, light useage, 2 people. Does make you wonder why machines don’t last long these days.My Miele is 4 yrs old – will be interesting to see if it lasts like they claim they do. Family of 4 so easily 5 loads a week.

ParticipantLG Direct drive, superbly quiet, large drums and load capacity. All brands suffer from issues these days, even legendary ones like Miele, although I’d hazard a guess not as frequently as some. I used to work in the white goods retail industry until recently. My opinion is from feedback from the thousands of customers I spoke to.

Participantwe are a very large family of 9, i have 2 series 6 bosch washers and they are both about 4-5 years old and do at least 3 loads a day each! not bad when you think how they are hammered! id love a miele but the price of them means i would expect at least 10 years to make it worth the money
