Hi, I currently have a Beko WMA 767 S washing machine and it has served me relatively well but has always suffered from leaking from the drawer. I am insured with Domestic & General and have had an engineer round 3 times to try to identify and fix the problem, to no avail. He has replaced the pump and the drawer and done various tests to see if any error codes are displayed but he still can’t find the problem.

I have tried reducing the spin speed and using less detergent (despite only ever using the recommended dose by the manufacturer, such as 2 Ariel powder tablets in the drawer as stated on the box) but nothing seems to work.

So I have had enough really and think it’s about time to get a new machine, I am going to see if D&G will foot the bill but if not I will get one anyway.

So after that rather long introduction (sorry about that), I was hoping people could advise me which machine might suit my needs best.

I live on my own and in a very soft water area. I do around 2 loads of washing a week (I tend to do all my clothes together in one load and all my towels in another and my bedsheets and quilt covers in a separate load) and I try to line dry weather permitting, although I prefer to use my White Knight C372WV tumble dryer to dry my towels as they come out softer. If I can’t line dry then I have to use maidens indoors.

The space I have to fit my washer in is about 60cm wide by 88cm high, the depth isn’t that much of an issue (it will be going in a space under a counter top). My budget at the moment isn’t set (depends if my insurance will foot the bill), although I was thinking up to £400.

Most machines tend to be around 7kg plus but I don’t know if that’s too big for me, I don’t really do huge loads and if I separate my clothes into different fabrics and colours etc, then the loads will be too small to put into the machine so I usually just put all my clothes together in one reasonably sized load, so as not to unbalance the machine. Also, a lot of my clothes tend to either be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} cotton or a cotton/synthetic mix.

I have seen a lot of machine around the £200-300 price range (indeed I think that’s what I paid for my Beko) so this is probably a more realistic budget.

Can anyone please give me some recommendations?

    Thanks very much.

its always a difficult one but as far as load goes look at it this way. the heavier the load the more strength there has to be in the machine components so they may last longer

for my money I still like Bosch. no they are not as good as they used to be but if you want a reasonably good machine with a 2 year guarantee look at Bosch model WAE24167GB have supplied this machine to local care provider over the year and they get battered and seem to last ok
Bosch can be a bit of a mine field but the model above seems to come out ok

with ref to the leak on your Beko. is it foam that leaking out the draw or fill water. if its the fill water slowing down the water flow into the machine can make a big difference

Hi Dave, I’ll look into the Bosch you recommended. It’s mostly foam coming out of the drawer with a mixture of water as it settles in a puddle on the floor. It can be quite a lot that comes out. I think it tends to happen towards the last half hour or so of the wash but possibly earlier.

It doesn’t happen on every wash and it’s very hit or miss as to what causes it. I have tried lots of different detergents and amounts, be it liquid or powder and liquitabs or powder tablets and again various size loads in the machine. If I use a small load, say under 3kg then it might not happen but then again it’s a 7kg capacity machine so I shouldn’t have to keep doing small loads.

I have tried using different programs too such as a synthetics wash as that allows you to do a smaller load and I have tried a normal cotton wash which should allow up to full capacity. I just can’t seem to find the right balance that will make the machine run normal every time I do a load.

Anyway, regardless, I’ve had enough now so I am edging towards getting a new machine and seeing if that’s better. I’ve had this Beko since 2008 so I don’t know if age is an issue.

from what you are saying the machine is over-foaming and coming out of the drawer.
you seemed to have tried everything
if you watch the machine is there a lot of foam inside the drum ?
does it function on the wash ok but do it on the rinses ( if so is the filter clear so it get rid of all the water and is the soap draw clean so it does not re dose)

Re: Washing Machine For Single Person?

There does seem to be a lot of foam that gathers at the door window but this could be normal and it does rinse away.

The majority of the wash cycle seems to go fine but it does seem to start coming out of the drawer toward the last 30-40 minutes of the wash. I’m not sure if that’s during a rinse or spin cycle, as the wash last anywhere from 1.5 hours to 2 hours 15 mins (depending which program I use), I haven’t actually sat there and watched an entire wash.

The filter is always clear, I have checked this and made sure to use the pump outlet hose to remove any excess water. The soap drawer did get dirty in the past (a few weeks ago the engineer replaced it with a brand new one) but I tried to keep it as clean as possible and since having the new one, the problem has happened again. The engineer has tested for blockages and to see if there are any drainage issues or pump issues (and has even replaced the pump just in case) but everything seems to be working fine.

The two links you provided I have been to before funnily enough. I am very careful with my machine and always make sure nothing gets stuck in the machine. I also thought it was a “too-much-detergent” problem and that was why I switched detergents and also make sure to use the exact dosage recommended. I also use softener when washing to see if this helps but it doesn’t (other than the normal benefits of using softener).

As I mentioned, I live in a very soft water area and so water hardness isn’t an issue. Because this has been an ongoing problem for quite a few years I have become obsessed with washing now lol and have tried lots of different things to try to solve it. The problem is that I can’t replicate the issue on every wash but I would say it happens more often than not.

I thought it might be a load size problem but I would say the maximum load I use is 5kg and that’s if I use an entire week’s worth of clothes or perhaps combine my towels and clothes into one wash. I have had the issue when washing just a couple of throws I used on my sofa and so that put paid to my theory of washing with smaller loads making it better.

    Anyway, thanks for your suggestions.

I know this is an old post but had a similar Beko fault 1 month ago. Did he change the actual soap box as well as the draw? What can happen is the breather part of the soap box gets part blocked which causes a vacuum within the machine and although the machine pumps out this vacuum affect can cause H2O to spit out of the soap box on rinses…..just a thought should anyone else come a cropper in future!

Re: Washing Machine For Single Person?

Hi, yes the engineer did replace the soap box. In total he replaced the soap box, pump and the main control panel/internal program computer (not sure what it’s called). This did calm things down a bit but every now and again the same problem would occur. The only way to be sure of it not happening was to run a service wash every few weeks (which I know you should do anyway). It seemed for whatever reason the machine was getting a build-up of soap more regularly than normal and so would require a service wash to flush the system.

Anyway, I got sick of having to constantly monitor my machine and clean it out and so have since got rid of it and bought a Samsung WF70F5EDW. It’s received good reviews so hopefully this one will be better and I shouldn’t have the same problem again.
