ParticipantHi
After tiling my kitchen floor, the height of my worktop is now 84cms (space available from floor to under the worktop).
I had an old Indesit Moon washer which fit under but need a new one and cant find one to fit- don’t want a built in one as although I can get a door to match my kitchen, I cant get a matching handle, plus it adds to the price.
Most washing machines are advertised at 85cm but I know the actual measurement is sometimes lower but not low enough for me to take a chance on (I have been to Currys with my tape measure). Obviously I have to be certain.
Bosch have certain washers that can be reduced by putting a cover plate on- again cost involved.
Would I be able to replace the feet of a new washer to say something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hotpoint-Beko … SwImRYmFim as some washer feet have 2 nuts as well as the feet so might mean the washer sits lower?
I’m really stuck as need a new washer and don’t know what to do for the best.
Thanks for your helpFebruary 28, 2017 at 7:39 pm #445727don

Hi
Leave the standard feet on it will balance better than the anti vibration feet.
The cheapest way to reduce the overall height would be to remove the worktop lid and using a piece of sheet metal say from an old tumble dryer or washing machine lid or side panel make your own height reduction lid.
As long as it’s covering the front accurately so little fingers can’t get in and it saves any spillage from getting in it will be okay. Once fitted you can adjust the feet a little if need be.
Which model are you thinking of?

Machines advertised as 85cm are their ‘maximum height’ with the adjustable feet extended to maximum I think you will find. Most work surfaces are almost 86cm in height allowance. I am sure, with the adjustable feet in position most machines will go under your worktop. Double check that tape measure to be sure once your mind is made up as to what make.
Worst case scenario is that there’s nothing to stop you removing the worktop and fitting a 3 ply wooden cover, screwed down much like the Bosch metal conversion kits. 😉

Don, I actually had my eye on this- graded as lid has snapped off and reduced to reflect this- apparently there is nothing else wrong with it…http://www.appliancesdirect.co.uk/p/772 … ng-machine
and buy a proper cover for £30 off amazon (I rang Bosch for the right model cover and its on Amazon for this amount).
The only thing that puts me off is the 90 day warranty instead of the 2 year. Though I was wondering whether by registering with Bosch the 2 year guarantee will come into play anyway.February 28, 2017 at 8:01 pm #445730C D

Martin, I have been on the online chat on quite a few of the electrical websites and tried to say that 85 must be the max height, to the person I have ‘chatted’ to, however because that’s what it says on the advert they wont have it that it could be lower in height. The lady in Currys was helpful telling me that certain Bosch models have lids that can be replaced but didn’t seem too convinced that other washers can go lower than 85cm. My son and I measured quite a few washers but without trying to adjust the feet it wasn’t really successful as we were getting strange looks as you can imagine- we left in the end without success lol.

Hi C D
Just to clarify Bosch machines with the feet wound right in are 84.5cm tall. The height of the foot including the adjusting nut is 15mm.
The height of the worktop lid is 3cm, model dependent.

what you also have to be careful is how level is your floor. Make sure you check your height in all 4 corners. would not be the first time I have has 0.5cm or more difference left to right or front to back

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I will double check back and front measurements when I go home after work this afternoon.
I haven’t got much margin for error which is my problem as obviously there needs to be a bit of leaway for movement :(.
Also its not as if I can try different washers and send back if not a fit. And I’m not keen on making a makeshift top for a new washing machine.
I have an old Bush one under atm that my son gave me temporarily-have had to remove the feet altogether to fit it under so when its on, it moves forward and has scratched some of the granite tiles.
Its all a bit of a nightmare. -
