Washing Machine Not Spinning

Hi

We have an Indesit WN1263WG washing machine and yesterday it ran through the complete wash cycle but at no stage did the drum go round.

I have taken the panel off the back and tried a delicate spin cycle (no problem with belt from drum to motor). The controls go round but the motor does not drive the drum.

Could it be simply that the motor is broke or are there some other things I could try before assuming this (fuses to motor etc)?

Would be grateful for your advice before calling in an engineer.

With the power off, remove motor and check the motor brushes lengths, they should be approx 1.5″ from new to give you an idea.
It may also be worth checking for dry joints on the speed control module/pcb and/or possible on board fuse may have blown IIRC
Please put that back panel on before re-testing for your own safety 😉

Thanks for a prompt reply.

Have taken the motor off and brushes are very short (3/16″ on one side and 1/4″ on other side). I think the shorter one does not make contact with motor?

Can I buy replacement brushes? Seems reasonable to try this before taking other bits off?

An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk with the full model number off the machine rating plate should suffice.
You may find it useful to purchase at the same time a “com stick” to clean the motor commutator 😀
