ParticipantHallo,
I have a maching machine with maximum speed of 1400 rpm.
But I am afraid that sometimes the speed is automatically reduced to lower limit. I don´t like this, I want the my washing machine always reaches the maximum speed because I spent a lot of money for it.
is there a simple way to measure the speed of the drum? stroboscope light can be a way?
I thank you for your help
bye

Hi
What is the make and model number of your machine?
It appears you are posting from Michigan USA so it may be that a local forum may be of more help.

Thought that YouTube video was a wind up, but duly did a search for it on the app store ..it’s there for 69p…
The question you’re all asking is “does it work though”?
Yes it does, and pretty accurately..

I was wondering what happened to Speedy Gonzales (remember him?)………I wonder if he bought that machine with Green Stamps? ( get it?) 😉

How can it work, and how can you know it’s working without checking the speed with a tachometer to see if it tallies? I can’t see how it’s possible for an iPhone to accurately detect speed from vibration, particularly as there are no vibration sensors in there are they? Surely only a tilt sensor?
Also the vibration on a Miele or ISE10 spinning at 1400 would be totally different to that of an Indesit?

It’s not from vibration Andy though that Mexican dude stood it on top of the machine in the YouTube video. It detects rpm using sound and a mathematical constant known as Fourier Transform apparently, stirs it all about and comes up with a figure in rpm. Can be used on car engines, jet engines and all manner of machines that go round and round and round and round………

It also says it uses “strong use of iPhone triaxle accelerometer” Martin. I still find it hard to believe it works. I might have to download it, but unless I have already checked how fast my machine is spinning how can I know it is accurate and not just guessing from the noise 🙂

I have to ask of it all though Andy…..”Who gives a monkeys anyway?”

Good points raised there gents ..
All I know is
I tried it on speeds from 800 up to 1600 in 200rpm increments..and it was more or less showing the machines set speed..
But for 69p you can’t complain!

iPhones are fitted with accelerometers by the way

Utilising the Fourier Transform Constant……by all accounts……..all clever stuff for sure.

Only interested because he’s posted exact same thing on my forum and trying to work out if it’s something I should leave or remove. I’ve removed the links and youtube video because the exact same question and reply has been posted to at least 4 forums I know of and from people with IP’s in different countries, which could have legit explanation but it a little suspicious.

Spread the word Andy, why not? It seems often technology goes beyond the bounds of practicalities and usefulness. But the public at large have an insatiable appetite for ‘apps’ especially those that actually work. In this case I can foresee thousands of nerds using the app to check out the speed of their own washing machines and then asking stupid questions on UKW. “My washing machine is supposed to spin at 1600rpm but I’ve checked and it only does 1550….can I get my money back or can someone tell me if there is a variable resistor on the PCB I could tweak?”
