ParticipantMy Zanussi Jetstream 1003 may have given up the ghost (another post). I’m looking for advice on a replacement washing machine if that turns out to be necessary.
I see that Bosch, Siemiens, Miele, ISE are frequently suggested, but can anyone comment on their vibration during a fast spin.
The machine will be on a chipboard floor in a timber-frame house.
The Zanussi, and its predecessor( a 1970s Hoover) vibrated badly when spinning. They made a terrible racket and the whole house shivered. Glassware on shelves in other rooms tinkled.
We did work at getting both machines level, even replacing the chipboard floor.
In reviews noise is often mentioned, but vibration rarely is.
Other requirements: two people, about 3 loads aweek,
line dry whenever possible.I don’t need a a big load capacity, partly because of the drying problems in bad weather, partly beacuse I’d rather not have dirty clothes piled up while waiting to accumulate a full load.
But vibration and reliability are the main issues.

Funnily enough, underloading is possibly the biggest single cause of excessive vibration. 😉
You will get away with it with small, light items, underclothes, socks, thin shirts etc, but if you underload with heavier items such as towels, jumpers, jeans, bedding etc, then you may not have enough laundry in the drum to distribute evenly all around the drum, this is then a slightly out of balance load which will lead to vibration in any machine. The higher quality machines will cope a little better but they will still vibrate to some extent.

Vibration is rarely an issue on a solid (concrete- stone) floor for any of the makes you mentioned there Millie. Suspended Chipboard – wooden floors must always be as rigid as possible in order to have the same effect as a solid floor. But invariably there is always some movement issues to some degree. Excessive vibration within the machine is most often due to washing small uneven loads therefore to avoid any problems a full’ish load is to be recommended every time.
It’s worthwhile noting also that those brands have load balancing sensors fitted that prevent unbalanced loads from spinning until the load is distributed evenly throughout the drum. Thus cutting down most if not all problems of the kind your Zanussi suffers from! 😉

OK, despite the above info about balance detecting etc. the machine can be as solid as anything but on a floor that ‘moves’ it will always be a problem. The imbalance software detects imbalance in the drum, it can’t affect how your flooring moves.
If it really is chipboard flooring, even a well balanced load will ‘vibrate’. Get the flooring shored up and that will improve it. -
