ParticipantI have a Zanussi washer dryer (Lindo 1000) which lately started twisting clothes out of shape. I had this once around a year ago when I washed 2 tops on their own, and one of them came out twisted like a helter skelter and completely stretched out of shape. But lately its happening in every load, one item comes out twisted and ruined.
I’m wondering if anyone can help me understand what is going on here and what I can do about it- if anything?

Participantonly 2 things that come to mind that`ll cause that that are not obvious such as a warped drum for some reason which is not common or a bra wire that pokes through a drum hole. More likely to be a door seal gap between the drum and the rear of the seal where the seal droops forward creating a bigger gap – fairly common. Or you close the door on something between the glass and the seal but that would normally tear the seal lip.

ParticipantHi Andy.
Thanks so much for your response. If it were a door seal gap is it something I can see myself? I have D&G insurance, is there any point calling them? I don’t want any more clothes getting ruined!!

Participantwell the back of the door seal can droop and when it droops it creates a gap between the rear of the door seal and the drum. The drum itself can only 1) get warped which is very unlikely or 2) appear definitely warped because of a fractured bearing arm which would make the machine sound like a road workers jack hammer on spin – so perhaps you could discount that. A bra wire poking up would almost certainly make a racket too – so discount that one, so you are left with an increased door seal gap between it and the drum so if the gap is 0.5cm or more that would or could cause you the problem = replace the door seal.

ParticipantAfter thought. Have a very good look at the paddles in the drum. Had drum padd;les break off but then that is obvious but you never know could be split, half hanging off big crack in the plastic that kind of problem. If your lindo is one of the ones with a paddle that allows access to the hidden pump filter you mifgt want to chech that paddle first.

ParticipantHi andyjawa
Thanks so much for replying again. I had an engineer out last week and said the bearings have gone, as well as another two parts that needed replacing- I’m not sure what. I should be hearing from D &G tomorrow- I am pretty sure they will write off the machine but hey ho, you never know…
thanks so much for all your responses, they are hugely appreciated and so informative!January 6, 2023 at 7:27 am #484358andyjawa
ParticipantBearings shot in drum but no initital mention of the machine ever being noisy in original question…..so here`s a question to match a question, why the hell am I wasting my time?

ParticipantSorry I wasn’t so specific. I called D & G because the machine was making a racket, and mentioned it’s twisting clothes out of shape. An engineer came a couple of weeks ago and said the bearings went, and two other parts need replacing as well- which I mentioned above, but I have no idea what those parts are, I’m assuming something to do with the twisting that’s happening.
I am still waiting to hear from D & G and in the meantime I put in a load with a prayer on my lips and fingers crossed that my stuff doesn’t get trapped in there…

ParticipantLet us hope for a good in your favour speedy machine exchange or repair.

ParticipantMachine was repaired on Friday. It was taken apart piece by piece, and had the drum, door seal, heat exchange, pulley and the bit that pushes soap from the drawer to the drum replaced. It was a right big job, and I don’t see how it could possibly have been cost-effective for D & G to do all that, but apparently according to the new “right to repair” legislation they need to attempt repair before writing anything off.
Thankfully my machine is now working fully but I was appalled at the build quality of the machine. I am in no way a professional- I’m just an office worker but I was shocked to see flimsy metal and rusting in some places. I am going to replace this machine very soon with a Miele- at least my machine is working so i can take my time choosing and perhaps wait for a good promotion.
Thanks so much for all your help and advice.

ParticipantDont think a Miele is a magic bullet , yes built better than most but the quality of all machines have really gone downhill compared with 10+ years ago , so good luck , my mums miele lasted 18 years and was still going strong when she upgraded to a larger drum , these new miele’s i wouldn’t bet on them lasting half as long.

ParticipantI don’t believe for a minute they are as good as they used to be- my Mum’s Miele is 17 years old and going strong, my aunt’s just broke on its 25th anniversary but was repaired for £50 and happily working again. Their 2 year warranties don’t inspire much confidence, but I don’t think anything else is better! What would you recommend other than a miele?
