ParticipantHi All,
Is it possible to use a washing machine without plumbing in the water inlet pipe to the mains water supply?
Obviously the outlet hose can be put into a sink, bath, etc.
But can something be done with a water inlet pipe such as putting it in a bucket full of water? Or is there a fixture that can be used to connect it to a universal tap? Or can the water be manually added to the washing machine every cycle through the soap compartment?I only need to use my washing machine without mains water plumbing for a few occasions, so any temporary solution would be great. Any ideas?

Short answer I am afraid is, no.
Sorry, you need mains water.

Well in fact to take this one step further, you could use well water or rain water supply provided you have sufficient ‘head of water’. By that I mean that the cold water storage tank would need to be at least 7 feet (2.2 metres) above the water inlet valve of the appliance.
However, that will only give a potential pressure 0.34 bar (5 psi) and many inlet valves will struggle with such a low pressure.
We are not privy to your circumstances, it would help to know a little more perhaps in order to help you further. After all, you may be living in a shed, caravan or squat where the waters cut off, for all I know. 😉
HTH? 😀

when i test machines in my garage i fill them up with a hosepipe put in the dispenser, i wouldnt recommend this for a whole cycle because it fills and drains quite a few times throughout the cycle and you would have to stand in front of it listening for the humming noise of the inlet valve when it needs water

From what you tell us I can picture the scene:
Machine all fixed (hopefully?) and ready for firing up…
Switch on, press the start button………
Then poke the garden hose into the soap drawer….
Rush to the outside tap and turn on………
Dash back to the machine to supervise the filling…..
Ooopps!!…Its filling too fast and overflowing….
Rush to the garden tap to turn the wick down a bit…
Dash to the machine to see if the flow is right….
Machine consumes water and the door glass shows the ever rising water level, drum tumbling, slopping water every which way…
No leaks, seems to work OK, stop machine….ahhhh :hmm:
Need to drain the water out…..
Drain hose not long enough to go outside, no bucket to hand….bugger, NOW WHAT?Bring back the days off the copper and the dolly paddle eh?
Life was so much easier then.
Do please forgive my droll sense of humour :clown:
