The washing machine is a Bosch WFL2260UK/04. The machine will wash and drain OK but refuses to spin. Advice on forums indicates that carbon brushes may need to be renewed; however, the brushes were renewed in August 2011 and if the problem is with the brushes, why would the drum rotate ok when washing?
I would appreciate advice on whether it is likely to be brushes or should I look elsewhere for the fault.
If you are certain it still washes OK then it could be insulation problems with the motor. (eg carbon dust causing earth leak inside motor). Usually in cases like this the drum actually turns on the spin only cycle but won’t ramp into a faster spin speed. If you fitted cheap pattern brushes in 2011 they could well be the problem by now anyway!
The previous brushes were indeed “cheapos”. This was almost certainly a mistake and a lesson has been learned! The machine is 12 years old, Bosch want £89 + parts (at least around £40 for brushes + who knows what else) so I think it will be best to cut my losses and go for a new machine. Thanks for your help guys
