    Good evening,

I’ve bought quite a few of these y-adaptors with the intention of having 4 machines connected at once (I have a collection of old washing machines as a hobby) but I am having trouble with screwing the hoses onto them and preventing them from leaking, if I screw them on too tight they override the thread on the connector and leak, is there something I’m not doing right? I’ve swapped different washers on them and this sometimes works. What if I used instant gasket or similar? Even superglue?

    James.

    Re: Washing Machine Y-Adaptor Troubles

Most Y connectors on the market are rather poor and quite often leak, especially if over tightened. Plumbers PTFE tape can sometimes help.
If you superglue them you may not be able to get them off later.
They are not really made to be re used TBH.

Funny I never thought about plumbers tape, I’ll try that tomorrow morning. If not then I will just have to revert to my old reliable arrangement even if I had to change over hoses now and again.

I’ve always had trouble with these. Just pack two rubber washers where the leak is. (usually the inlet side).

THESE ARE GREAT though not cheap and can be tricky to fit if the stopcock is tight to the wall. But they are the DB’s, never break or leak……the way forward.

Or make up copper pipe with washing machine taps on with a 3/4 thread end, then you could connect this manifold to the original tap and hey presto you have individual taps to isolate individual machines
