WashTower/Laundry Centre, what could possibly go wrong?

I went to a couple of Hoovers this afternoon, a washer dryer AND a washer, both needing their door seal changing (one ripped, the other one had come off because the laundry got caught in it and damaged it). Strange to have this combination of appliances I thought, and when I got there, they also had a tumble dryer. Anyway it turns out they used to have a Haier Laundry Centre, which is a machine with a washer at the bottom and a tumble dryer at the top, see this link:

This sends shivers down my spine!!

Back to the customer, they ended up with the two Hoover machines, because the Laundry Centre broke down and nobody could fix it (surprise, surprise) and Haier/Hoover replaced it with what would be the closest equivalent.

At least the LG one appears to split into two appliance carcases for service. In principle the upfront cost should encourage owners to repair rather than scrap the lot when one of the appliances fails, though in practice they may just scrap anyway and vow never to buy an expensive wash tower again.
