ParticipantWhats the general thoughts on the new style waste ends on the Zanussi/ Electrolux washing machines. I find that they are O.K on a downpipe, but a pain trying to connect on a stub under the sink. The stub always seems to be to close to the cabinet sides to connect the waste. Am I just being pickie?

Not seen one, Gonzo. Considering 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all installations are “stub” type these days, (despite all the bumpf in the instalation instructions about standpipes) it could be a big problem.

KeymasterI hate stubs, hate them, hate them, hate them! Just the sign of a lazy plumber IMO.
They cause so many issues the damn things ought to be outlawed!

Stubs! i love em especially the ones with non return valves I have made loads of money when they get blocked and give a no empty fault. I know what gonzo means though the Zan pipe ends can be hard to fit on some installations

Why have Zanussi changed the style of there outlet hoses I had to install one today
Had trouble fitting the outlet and to add to that the 10mm transit bolts were rounded off and had to undo them with a screwdriver ive now got arms like PopeyeJune 5, 2005 at 4:13 pm #136850farmboy

I’ve not seen one myself but for what it’s worth this is my opinion…

Possibly thats why they’ve done it and i can understand the logic – alot of the guarantee calls i used to get were machines where either the hose was pushed too far down the standpipe or fixed too low to the sink stub so the sink water ran back into the machine.
If the engineer goes out on a guarantee call and doesnt charge the customer because its incorrectly installed (as he’s supposed to according to the terms & conditions in the handbook) then it ends up costing the manufacturer.
Perhaps its zanussi’s way of encouraging customers to have standpipes fitted but let’s face it, when did you last see a new kitchen installation with standpipes ?

What’s all the fuss guys??? OK so they have changed the ends slightly, big deal…….NOT ❗
Don’t you carry various alternative drain couplings on your vans or what ❓ Statistically 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all installations are not ‘conventional’ anyway 😕
Think of it as addition work and lets be thankful for that. Years ago they didn’t even fit 13amp plugs on machines and 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of Joe Public couldn’t even fit one of those and that was a real good ‘earner’ for us believe me.
I cursed the day they fitted moulded plug-tops on appliances as I lost out on a lot of work, now you’re moaning about hose couplings….get out there and coin-it… 😈

I love stubs, they earn me so much money, I love dozy plumbers and kitchen fitters, they buy me all those little luxuries that make life worth while, long may fat filled stub connections last, long may blocked up non return valves from B&Q pour money into my bank account, long may DIY enthusiasts mess up appliance installations. Bless you all.

KeymasterYou guys obviously don’t have to explain to a custmer that just installed the machine that the plumber/kitchen fitter/other muppet didn’t read the manual and he/she’s now facing a bill for an appliance under warranty.
Chances of being paid… slim to none.
