    We are currently leaving all the packaging and the items we remove INNER/OUTER drums etc and all the cardboard with the customer. We leave fridge doors and under no circumstances are my engineers to accept it as my companies waste.

    What do you guys do????

    We have now had 2 in the last 3 months phone to say that our engineer left our rubbish at the customers house…..its difficult to explain that its not our rubbish but theirs. That the inner and outer don’t belong to us etc….

    So how much would it cost us too remove all the packaging……easy: stacks.

    We would probs have to get a license to touch it, an artic to carry it in(and thats just the cardboard), another artic for the storeman who chooses the largest box for the smallest part and fills it with bubble wrap, and then make sure the scrap man we give it to gives a waste document so the enviroment agency don’t sue the ar*e off you for fly tipping.

    Anyone know how to politely say all of this to the customer who phones to say ” you left your rubbish…..

    There is no easy way to explain that one to most customers as you say Kevin.

    We get it in the shop as well, people try and leave all their old cr*p behind which they bring along to identify what they want.

    One way I do try and explain to those householders with recyclable waste bins is that if we remove the parts/boxes etc they go to landfill sites, if the customer puts the recylable part(s) out with their own waste it will be recycled.

    It usualy convinces the “greener” customer to not put up an argument 😉

    One way I put it is “the good news is your appliance is working but the bad news is I have to leave you the old parts ” when she says why I say to show what I have fitted but when you need to get rid of it speak to the council to dispose as after all thats why you pay your council tax ,Normally said with a bit of humour most stuff gets left on site .Old machines go to a scrap yard locally.But I am aware this area is set to become an absolute minefield of legislation
    Ref fridge doors etc I plageurised a Servast /Smeg letter that quotes all the legislation etc chapter and verse and hand this to the cust as I walk in the door if they wont accept it I wont fit it.
    would be interseted to know how others get on

    Dead Simple.

    If under guarantee, the manufacturers usully want it back. In the case of Lux they have something in place to return removed parts & they cover the cost.

    If on insurance, we tell the customer; “in some cases the insurance company like to contact you and along with a questionairre they may ask to see the part. It is suggested you keep it for 3 months & if you hear nowt from them, bin it”.

    If chargeable, just say to the customer, “Well you have seen those porogrammes on the Telly where the engineer has allegedly fitted a part, but all of a sudden cannot find the old one in the back of the van; as your husband may like to see the bit. No problem here missus, we will leave you the old bit as proof”. The parts removed are your property, and we are entrusting you to decide what to do with the goods.

    Never had a problem yet.

    Hi all
    As I am now trading standards approved
    I have to leave ALL parts I have changed behind (even the screws ?)
    This is part of the agrement with them, to prove that all the parts were changed.
    I have found that my customers dont mind if I tell then that, and it is a good way of advitizing I am now approved.
