Hi – I have a 3yr old Smeg FAB30 and the inside of the Salad Drawer under the lid forms lots of condensation. The more veggies I put in the worse the condensation gets. I have to wipe under the lid, every three days or so. Smeg say there’s nothing wrong and I should put veggies in bag. So I bought mesh bags and the issue is still there. Is it the Ethylene and can I buy something to absorb it if so. Help!

A quick and easy resolve is to wrap veggies in paper kitchen towel before placing in the crisper. Especially so partially sliced cucumber, lettuce and cabbage.

Thanks. I’ll try this but it’s madness for such an expensive fridge that I have to keep wiping the lid. I will also try an ethylene absorber if I can find one.

Ethylene gases some fruit exude has nothing to do with condensation and chiller storage but more to do with cross contamination and decay. (Ethylene bags for bananas works brilliantly by the way, I can testify to that.)

You might like to get a digital thermometer, the sort with a wire probe? Very handy for double checking both inside and outside the fridge temperatures. The salad drawer is the coolest part of the larder cabinet so place the probe in there. On the other shelves ensure there’s no liquids uncovered as that can lead to increased condensation in the coldest areas.
