    Hi,

I’m experiencing issues with my washing machine (Indesit Ecotime IWDC6125S). There is water sitting in the coin trap (about a pints worth) and clothes are coming out smelling damp.

We first thought it might be the drain, so we used drain unblocker and bought a new connector for under the sink (the other came out at a right angle, and I was concerned food from the sink may travel back into the machine, so replaced it with one at a 45 degree angle)

I’ve cleaned my machine using a combination of distilled vinegar and baking soda. I have also taken the machine out and checked the hose, even ran the machine to check that water was being pumped out of the machine, and it was.

Does anyone know what the issue may be, and/or how to resolve the problem?

    Thank you in advance.

You will always have water in the sump and pump, that is quite correct.

As to smells from washing machines, probably best to read this:

Update: I cleaned the machine using 2x Detol Washing Machine Cleaner and 1x Dr.Beckmann Service-it Deep Clean Washing Machine Cleaner last night.

Even made the change from liquid detergent to Ariel pods (and added some fragrant laundry pearls for good measure). However, fabrics are still coming out smelling musty.

Again, the machine seems to be running fine (no water sitting in the drum, and you can hear the drain gurgling occasionally from water being pumped out).

Machine is less than 2years old :-/

The sad but all too common result of liquid detergents and low temperature washes I’m afraid. The bad news for you continues in that if you could physically see the outer drum from the inside you would come across a wealth of mould spores that take some shifting believe you me. Only very long hot washes and bleach based detergents will have any chance of shifting it.

Also, it is vital (I stress vital) that the washing machine door and soap drawer are left agar whilst not in use in order for air to circulate within. So if you don’t combine the two tips you won’t cure the problem I’m afraid. 🙁
