ParticipantI have a customer with a Hotpoint WD420P which works for a while then all lights flash and m/c stops. Sometimes when the machine is switched on all the lights come on and they can`t start programme until all the lights go out, they have to switch on and off a few times or wait till it feels like starting. It does seem random when lights come on and sometimes it can go through programme OK but they have informed me it is getting worse. I suspect module as it is not trying to flash in sequence or a fault code, am I right?
List price for module from connect £112 but it is not programmed. I have not fit one of these before, because most customers are not willing to pay that amount, this one is! Do I have to buy card reader, card etc etc to carry out this job and if so how straight forward are they?

It would be cheaper for the customer to get Hotpoint to do the repair if you are having to get a new board and programme it. You could get a ready to fit board from EMW or you could try the new capacitor, as described in the sticky PCB repairs thread.

dont even think about a new board too much hassle
send board to EMW they will test and if faulty will repair
adv if you make a mistake and the board is not faulty it does not cost the earth
if you need number post and someone will tell you

The Job is for a bank which I do quite a bit of work for and they can`t find date of purchase or can`t be arsed to look! I have explained about the 5 year parts guarantee but they want me to repair.
I have no problem with investing in a card reader etc but is it worth it? they have been around for a while and this is the first time I have needed one.
How long does it take EWM to turn around a PCB?January 27, 2010 at 4:02 pm #310274rocker

Personally, for 17pence or £2.06 for 10 including delivery I think I would be giving the capacitor fix a shot first. 😉

The machine is in a rented house (staff accomodation) I`m not keen on banks either but they pay well! This bank is the one I use so any charges I get just gets added to their next job 🙂
Tried the link for the capacitors (farnells) but they have a £20 min card charge.. thats 118 capacitors, but its still cheaper than another board though.

They sell loads of other stuff so you can make up an order with solder, desoldering materials, spade terminals, tools etc etc.

I’ve just got round to ordering some and during registering I had the choice of ‘trade account’ or ‘corporate card’. All very confusing, but went for the corporate card route. Followed the steps and paid with my debit card. No delivery charge came up. Will see what happens?
