ParticipantCan someone explain the workings of the door switch on washer/dryer wd62 ?
there are 3 connections L (live ) N (neutral) and C (?)
between L and N it shows the bi-metalic strip
between L and C it has the contactsI have voltage between L and N , but not on wire from C which goes to a ‘pressure switch ‘ ? by crt board / dials etc
How does this switch work in operation ? Presumably , when door is closed I this latch closes the contacts but where does this bi-metallic strip come into the equation ? etc etc
The original fault was m/c stopped mid cycle and won’t start up again !Can open and close door though even if on/off switch is ON !
Previously had been having occ probs starting and ‘banging’ door seemed to help !Cheers in anticipation of reply ..MERRY XMAS

You need a live and a neutral supply to operate the heater, which will activate the bimetallic strip. When bent, it shoots a bolt which locks the door and diverts the live supply back to the controls, thus allowing the machine to operate.
If you have replaced the lock like for like, it should operate. If it still doesn’t, check the PCB on the timer for damaged tracks.
Please don’t live test, there is no need and it’s dangerous.

thank for reply …
What safety is there that ensures door is closed ? otherwise just by turning m/c on would give 240v at switch ,with door open ??
Is it when door is closed and switch is manually operated by door catch that the heater is then functional to deadlock the door and supply back to controls as you describe ??I’m getting 240V supply across L and N , but no 240V on feed to pressure switch ( off terminal C of switch )…so looks like switch is knackered !
If I manually close switch will this give continuity across from L to C ? ie across the contacts …does manually operating switch close these contacts ?
Testing with meter for continuity – not ‘live ‘ obviously !Just with it being Xmas , its impossible to get a new switch for a while !

I think we’ve gone far enough with this one. The lock doesn’t work, get a replacement. Do not be tempted to try bypassing anything, just accept that the washing will have to wait a day or so.
