ParticipantCan anyone enlighten me as to why Hotpoint pass the air through a HOT water screen (which is, incidentally, the only use for hot water in the machine) when in the drying phase for a WD640? It seems perverse to me – not that I’m against perversion 😉

Hot water screen????
AFAIK the hot water inlet valve on the early H&C fill machines is connected directly to the soap dispenser and nowhere else. :con:
The hot water fill only comes in on the wash programmes to ‘top up’ after the initial cold fill when the clothes have absorbed some of the water.
The pipe from the small filter at the back of the heater box should be connected to one of the four cold valves.
There is an initial fill through the ‘wash’ valve at the start of any drying programme, for one or two seconds.
Flushing valve operation.
During Rinse phase: 2 xs for 15 seconds
Drying Phase: 1 x before drying phase for 4 seconds
End cycle: After drying phase, during cool down phase
Valve Off for 118 seconds
Valve On for 2 secondsBeginning of Drying CycleWash valve: On for 1 second to put water into dispenser hose
Flushing valve: On for 4 seconds
Drain pump: On for 20 secondsDuring Drying Cycle
Drain pump: On for 9 seconds and off for 21 seconds
Wash valve: On for 2 seconds and off for 510 seconds to put water into dispenser hose
Condenser valve: On continuously after thermo spinMay 10, 2010 at 1:33 pm #319804Bones127

I’ve just been to the Hotpoint website and downloaded the user manual for this machine. It gets shipped with hot and cold connections, two hoses fitted AND a ‘Y’ piece – with instructions to connect it to the cold supply only – even if hot and cold are available.
Thank you very much for your responses. I’m sorry I didn’t look before I leapt but it just looked so right – until I poked my head inside the top!
Thanks again!!

It not hot & cold connections, its just got two seperate cold valves, one is the cold fill wash valve, the other is the four way rinse, fabric conditioner, flushing, condensor valve.
