My Hotpoint WD860 has decided today to give me yet another problem! It’s 3 years old but under extended warranty.

Today I put the driver on and after about 5 minutes got a beep and F13 on the display combined with a smell of smoke and a humming whirring noise from the machine.

Does anyone know what F13 means? And is there anything I can do about it.

This is the worst machine I have ever experienced. I have had 4 – yes 4, LCD displays (but every engineer insists they never go wrong!), the weigt re-tightened (because as the engineer said, they didn’t put locking glue on the bolts at the factory), a new heater unit, new belt and endless other issues. I have lost track of the days off work I have wasted waiting for engineers to come out.

One engineer who came to investigate a horrible noise told me that it needed a new drum. He refused to order it up though saying that most engineers would not do the work if they had not requested it because it’s such a big time consuming job and he couldn’t ensure he would be the one to come back so just to live with the noise as it wasn’t excessive yet!

The pump keeps working loose and bouncing about in the bottom of the machine but the last engineer didn’t seem too worried about that! And when I mentioned to him that huge clumps of fluff keep falling from the dryer opening into a wash he said it was odd at less than 5 years but nothing he could do about it.

I will never buy Hotpoint again and nor will anyone else I tell my sorry tale of washer/dryer woe to. The only thing I don’t regret is buying the extended warranty!

but the moneys on the ntc

    Thanks

The wires on the heater have broken before and caused it to trip the fuse in the house whenever used. For that they changed the whole heater/fan assembly.

I am doubtful it’s that again as the electric isn’t tripping and it didn’t give a fault code last time, although with this pile of junk anything is possible.

Is the NTC the thermistor you refer to?

It is under extended warranty so they can come out and sort it.

Do you know if this is the sort of thing they would carry on the van, because almost every time they come out they don’t have parts for this model and I have to waste a second day waiting in for them to come with parts.

The weight of the wiring loom is taken by the skinny wires to the NTC, which then proceed to flap on spin. Take the top off and look.

    Power off first.
