I have also been looking at this. One trick they use is to have landing pages for each town they are targeting and they also set up a local telephone number diverted back to call Center.
I have experimented with registering domain names to match search and town, ie: http://www.iphonerepairshull.co.uk
This went to 2nd listing on first page from day 1

Yep, landing pages do work. Or did. Still do to a degree.
Just Google “Panda update”. That’s the start, not the end.
See, thing is, the interweb is in a state of constant flux as people figure out how to cheat the search engines, the search engines figure out how to stop the cheats and on and on the cycle goes.
But, as I’ve said, content is king. If you have relevant content to the search term then you will pop up at or near the top of the search results be that on Google, Bing or any other of the several thousand search engines.
What’s becoming more relevant is the moves toward social and mobile. 😉

And to that…
I’ve added a shedload of social media stuff to UKW the past couple of days to try to increase our traffic levels.
I’ll try to be as brief as I can on this as it’s a bit of geeky SEO stuff.
What you’ll see is the FB share button on the forum topics, don’t worry too much about that just now as it will change, probably next week as I’m not happy with it. IT looks bad IMO and I like things to look nice.
More importantly for the moment and, more important in general for you guys, is the promotion of the engineer search to try to drive more people to using it and you getting work from it.

If you scroll down there’s the that ability to share the page using FB, Google+, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Every “Like” sorta counts as a vote toward the page being of value, the more votes, the higher the value is with the search engines.
The same applies to all pages so, if you have a chance and have the relevant accounts and feel inclined, can you please press the button. 😉
Retweets also count.
Here’s the thing, I can’t go mental or it looks like spam and, in any event, it’s desperately annoying when you get loads of spammy posts on your wall or whatever.
But any links, shares or votes to that page in particular will bounce it up in the search results, which I hope generates more enquiries, which generates more free work to you lot.
So even posting in the forums that the poster should use an engineer in your opinion and to look for one from that page does help.

Thanks Ken,
I’ve added the postcodes to my little website as well and it is already making a difference.
Cheers as always 😀
