ParticipantHow many many times do we get calls from customers to say their machine has just “flooded”? Every day of the week I’m sure you’ll agree, but often it is a total exaggeration and over-reaction by the customer. :rolls:
Always in those instances I enquire a little more information from my customer before calling by (see the ‘call screening’ thread :rotfl: ) just in case it would be best that I should let the floods subside and allow plenty of time for my customer to clear the mess up before I get there. 😉
Well today I wasn’t able to speak directly to the customer as the call came from a 3rd party who hadn’t got any details of this job. So, knowing that most were total fabrications at best and a bit damp at worst, I went to see for myself?
In this case it was a tiny 200yr old mid-terraced cottage that had been extended (doubled even) over the years. The kitchen was towards the back of the property and beyond that the dining room, playroom and conservatory at the back. The kitchen was in fact 18 inches below the level of the rest of the property and (you’ve guessed it!) it was 18 inches deep with water!!!!!!!!!! 😥
The lady loaned me a pair of her husbands wellies to enable me to then wade in and stop the leakage. What had happened was that her Hotpoint WD62 had jumped out of balance, fell off the ‘roof tile’ blocks it was jacked up on and the hot water inlet hose had snapped off flooding the entire kitchen. She was upstairs during the time the machine was working and didn’t come down until until all the house lights went out!
It’s been a good many years since I have seen such an amount of water in a kitchen. The customer was in a terrible state as you can imagine during this time. I really didn’t think it appropriate to go to my van for my camera. I just managed to stop the water for the time being and I will call back sometime in the future no doubt if only to get paid for what part I played in this (not so typical) Monday morning drama. 😯

A good friend of mine who got out of the madhouse and went to live in Turkey a couple of years ago had the same problem. The machine is in the basement (Beko bought second hand off a friend who was moving) about five feet below the ground level (no it didn’t flood to that degree). He hadn’t realised the transit bars had been put back in, :rolls: on the first spin it twisted right round snapped the cold hose and did the obvious. As he’s so far down the only way to get the water out was to disconnect his pool pump and chuck it downstairs.
Oh to have a pool to pump out 😥Tony C
