The bearings on my Hotpoint WF865 sound like they are on their way out again, for the third time in 8 years. On the previous 2 occasions we have been covered by Hotpoint aftercare and have therefore not had to pay for this to be done. We no longer have the care so as an engineer myself I plan on replacing them. I am 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure that we have the 30mm bearings but I want to replace the spider too so I was wondering if I could just buy a new spider + bearings kit in 35mm and do a straight swap out?

I believe the difference between the 2 bearings sizes is only the ID of the bearings and not the OD so i see no reason why this should not be possible.

    Anyone able to confirm this?

    Regards

    Tony

You cannot do this, the 35 mm bearings are larger. To replace with 35 mm bearings and spider you would have to change the drum rear half as well, a new drum rear half would come complete with bearings as long as you order the correct part. This may make the cost of repair uneconomic.

Thanks for such a quick reply iadom.

That’s a bummer, the last 2 times the engineer has done the job they just replaced the rear drum assy, I don’t recall seeing him change the spider hence my assumption that it is still the 30mm version. I guess I will have to take the drum out and check what is currently fitted.

    Thanks again.

If they replaced the rear half then its got 35mm bearings.

Oh, well it was last done about a year ago but I didn’t notice him replace the spider, maybe it was done the first time, about 6 months after we bought it.
