WFO2865GB/01 STUCK ON WASH CYCLE

Hello
as above, WFO2865gb/01 Bosch Exxcel 1400 Express has started getting stuck in the wash cycle… doesn’t rinse or drain , unless manually selected when its fine…

I have recently cleaned out the drain, as we have to do this periodically anyway, but having searched the WFO posts I’m off to do this again 😉

counter carries on counting down to 1min, but doesn’t stop, just keeps washing, and causing more bubbles lol, so that rinse /spin doesn’t really get rid of the bubbles very well.
spin , when it’s allowed to…works fine, and I believe rinse/drain is ok too(I don’t profess to ‘know’ the timings 😉 )

I can hear the pump working and the water gurgling out but any pointers while I’m checking the Filter would be appreciated 😀

slung a teatowel in for a freshen/spin
and the drain pump (which dosent have excessive play and ‘jumps’ around as it should by hand…)
ran for 40-60 secs

Filled rinsed then
took 165 secs before a clic when draining, a further 20-30 secs then the drain pump stopped and another pump noise started at approx 9mins remaining, and the spin cycle started.

I have started it on a 90 min wash now, but I did clear some solid powder deposits from the black tube into the pump filter(which would have been restricting the throughput)
also can anyone tell me if the ‘ball’ in this draining tube (approx 2-3″) is some sort of float?
and if so could this affect the wash cycle not ending?
I scrunched the rubber around the ball, and it seemed to break up similar deosits in the pipe…

on starting the above rinse cycle the deposits clattered around the pump for the first few secs…(Couldn’t get to them without removing the whole drain inlet pipework)

from other posts it seems the poor or inefficient pump gives the symptoms I’m experiancing, but can someone tell me why?
for an intelligent machine, that adjusts timings if out of balance etc it seems a little odd that it would continue to countdown, when it hasnt completed part of its cycle??

Sorry for the essay… I’m an elec/mech engineer so I like to know ‘why’ lol

It actually sounds like you may have a heater fault . The appliance will run for approx another 105mins extra , on top of the normal cycle times , if the heater is open circuit and therefore not heating the water.

The heater is situated on the front lower edge o the drum amd when checked for resistance should read approx 27 – 33 ohms .

I had come to that conclusion myself , when I tried the aforementioned 90 degree(to test) wash, and there was no heat 🙁

I stripped it out ok, and its ready for test, but My meter is at work, and my spare from the shed….well we wont go into what happened there….lets just say it wasn’t usable LOL, and my baby ‘wallet meter ‘ has gone missing so I’m waiting till I get my meter from work.

I was amazed how easy this machine appears to be for access 😯

can you let me know the thermocouple resistance too?
and would I be right in thinking that I’m basically looking at three possabilities, Heater, thermocouple, controller?
can you give me rough ballpark budgets for each please?

The thermocouple you refer to is an NTC ( Negative Temp coeffecient ) and is the temperature detection system . They very rarely go wrong. The open circuit heater element is quite common though.

The NTC should read approx 10k ohms @ 10*c down to approx 1k ohm @ 65*c
For a rough guide….and these are genuine Bosch prices about £57 for the heater , 8 or 9 notes for the NTC ( which is always worth replacing if you fit a new heater element ) and the module is approx £130.

Thanks Paul, Heater is open cct. as you suggested and ntc is 5.1k ohm at a warm early morning temperature lol, so looks fine..

Initially I thought the heater was just going to pull out after removing the earthing nut, but after loosening a touch it dosent seem to want to move now? is there a fixing at the non terminal end? I cant feel one?

Didn’t want to prize away at something held in with another fixing LOL.

No worries … a lil more searching led me to realise the compression fitting type sealing :rolls:

wasnt pretty in there lol..

actually , apart from caked around the heater, its spotless so hopefully just a new heater will see her through 🙂

IS GENUINE BOSCH ‘NECCESSARY’ OR ADVISABLE OR dosent matter??

The original is Bleckmann US70 SHD 03161 2000W

but only references i come across for them are swiss/AUSTRIAN/german 🙁
and it looks like they were taken over by aweco….ARRGGGHHH

I can’t vouch for pattern parts but if you search the shop@ section of this site or drop the lads there an e-mail , they may have an alternative.

The proper element is 265961 – spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly. There is a known issue in the trade with pattern elements not seating/sealing properly, so in this istance I would buy the genuine article.

That is indeed the part P45, I found it on the Bosch site in the end…
I’ve mailed the spares dept, but I’ll go searching for a phone number cos I need to get to bed LOL…

Have the pair for £65 delivered from Bosch at the moment so will see what they can do me for 🙂

Just a quick Note to Say thanks for the help and info provided :tup:

Element arrived yesterday, quickly and easily fitted and first test wash with no problems 🙂

I suspect the scale build-up has also led to too much powder being used as well, so maybe some savings to be made 🙂

I’d just posted a thread on my simailr (but not exactly the same) problem. Ours basically sometimes doesn’t get to the spin bit of the cycle, but when manually selected it spins fine…

I do wonder though if I have a heater element on it’s way out, the drum does get hot on a 90 degree wash so it hasn’t completely given up yet…

Do you need to take the front off to get to the heater, I think it’s somewhere below the drum?
