ParticipantAqualectric was saying something a few weeks back about Zan/Lux offering discounted repairs to late machines suffering the pcb blown by lock problem. Got one such case ZWX1605W. Have told customer to ask them. What are they likely to offer? Customer reckons machine is between 2 and 3 y.o..

The best person to answer that question accurately would be Alex. I was informed that Electrolux would help their customers with a heavily discounted repair if the machine was just out of warranty. The one I repaired needed the door interlock, the fascia PCB, the core PCB and the analogic pressure switch. It was a 16 month old integrated washer / drier so it was Hobson’s choice to repair it. Had it been freestanding, it would have been binned. 🙁
IMO, this makes Zanussi / Electrolux machines on par with Indesit. What’s the difference now? Sealed tubs, chocolate teapot electronics……a few years back you could recommend a Zanussi with relative confidence.
Not any more…..but do they care?Steve.

They usually only entertain concessionary repairs on appliances being less than 2 years old that’s suffered a major fault. A machine being “2 or 3 years old” is likely to be well out of the running. 🙁

Most manufacturers I’m sure would be sympathetic if under 24 months old, and sometimes I make the commercial decision myself as I always get support from within the Electrolux Group.
However this one looks like it may be well beyond that. Without the history, cause and useage applied, difficult to pass comment.

I thought I might as well get her to ring them. I didn’t bother taking out the board for a look as it was an on/off light only showing and swapping lock made no difference. (Old lock had clear yellow/brown burn mark).
Told her that if they didn’t offer any substantial discount then I would return for another look, if she wished. Didn’t look closely at machine but it had that clean, looked after look about it.
