    The 0870 number is a call centre number , so they would probably have passed the call on to your local Zanussi agent anyway.

    This topic was just pointed out to me, I was on holiday last week.

    I was unaware that Service Force were using such a system but I am aware that Whirlpool are also trialling it too with the intention to roll it out. Basically it is exactly what you see, any incoming calls are transferred to a remote call centre (run by an insurer) who try to sell insurance before passing the call to the local agent, usually for a lower fee as the insurer has a contract with the manufacturer.

    I and many others do not agree with this policy and, from what I can gather, customers aren’t exactly over the moon about the attempt to sell a policy either when all they want is a repair. I fail to see any advantage to the customer personally.

    All I can suggest is that you voice your complaint to Service Force, you can get details from http://www.serviceforce.co.uk and make them aware of your feelings on the matter. If enough people complain about it they may just look at the problem.

    For anyone reading this that has Whirlpool appliances their contact details can be found at http://www.whirlpool.co.uk and again all I can suggest is that you complain about having to go through a third party to get a service call.

    I’d like to say that this was a passing fad, but there’s obviously some serious money involved, so I guess that these manufacturers will press ahead anyway with this policy unless their customers dictate otherwise.

    Zanussi are well aware of it as they own that phone number, well, Electrolux do as they own Zanussi amongst other brands. So it has to have been sanctioned by Electrolux.

    Sorry but we had to stop anonymous posting due to high levels of SPAM in the forums, it was the only way I’m afraid. 🙁
