ParticipantI’m looking for a stainless steel american fridge freezer, without the drink dispenser ( as it always tastes funny doesn’t it?)….happy to spend £1000-£2000 if its worth it….whats the best value for money deal out there at the moment for a quality product?
I like the look of the maytag trilogy, but had never heard of them…any good?
be really grateful for any help

Maytag and their sister company Admiral do produce a fine product. I own a 2 door Admiral with Ice/drinks maker with filter so water tastes just fine!)
I only have 2 reservations for you to take on board though. 1). Stainless steel????….yuk! they are a bugger to keep clean, you have to smear baby oil on the front to prevent finger marks…..they are rubbish in my opinion 🙁 2). Service when they go wrong can be a challenge in some areas of the UK…beware!

The Trilogy is a fantastic design, the stainless is great if you use the right product to clean.
Maytag offer stainless steel wipes which clean and leave a protective film on the product which helps with finger marks.
I often wonder why anyone ever fits handles to appliances, obviously no one uses them.
The Stainless Steel Wipes (Maytag) are available at a cost of £9.99 from Maytag UK 01737 231 000 ( 1 box = 25 wipes)Highly recommended, all Maytag engineers know carry samlpes which are used to clean the appliance down following any service call.
Customers once seen used tend to purchase a box straight off.May 19, 2006 at 5:34 pm #176602Dales-Electronic

Have a look at Samsung, they now do a range of american style side by side fridge freezers. Plus the majority of their service work is carried out by independent service companies – always a bonus

I have to admit I’ve got an old badged Maytag unit, it has De Dietrech on the front but it’s a Maytag and it’s been pretty good.
The downsides have been the icemaker tray which has disintegrated due to what I consider a design flaw, if Maytag want to pay me I’ll tell them why. And the water valve gave up due to blockage, but most of the new ones have a filter on them so that should eliminate that issue.
The only other thing is that the icemaker unit died a few years ago and I’m glad it was under warranty at the time as, even a few years back now, the icemaker unit was way over £100. A valve was priced up (from DD who take the Mick anyway) at about £70 IIRC, so not cheap.
The Samsung ones I was adviced to steer well clear off due to reliability issues, one distributor told me he wouldn’t sell me one as all I’d do was write a review for UKW slating it to death. 😆
But if Maytag think they’re up for it I’m up for reviewing one. 😉
