    What Price Loyalty

I was employed by Hotpoint through all its name changes for thirty eight years.
I was a member of the ETU through all its name changes for forty four years
I retired early partly by desire and mostly for health reasons in December 2005. On retiring Hotpoint only honoured their contractual agreements, they didn’t wish me well, enjoy the rest of your life etc.
Amicus acknowledged my letter of resignation and wished me well for the future.

Just after retiring Amicus sponsored a forum for the field service .After some skilled negotiating [on my knees begging] although I was neither a member of the union or staff they allowed me access to the forum.
Some time latter, out of the blue I received an email saying that my access was temporarily suspended due to the dispute with Merloni re pay talks but as soon as the dispute was settled my suspension would be lifted
The dispute is now over and I have been told that the NNC have said that due to confidential material that may appear in postings I would not be allowed back [I thought it was a forum for a service company not MI6]

When I first joined the union they were heavily involved in clearing the communists out of the ETU led by Les Cannon and Frank Chappell.
I along with every other loyal member took part in marches, strikes, meetings and picketed the TUC and Labour party annual meetings to show our support of the union in there [now] successful attempt to rid the union of the communists.
If it wasn’t for me and like minded people there wouldn’t be a union for them to be on the NNC.

Well perhaps its achievement enough in this day and age of an independent commercial company to still be in business after all this time? And to have hung on in there with them for 38 years has to be congratulated at least by your close colleagues within the company, as I’m sure that has been the case. 🙂

But you know, historically Merloni have always had an antagonistic approach to unions and those involved within them, so I’m sure you are not the least bit surprised that fascism still exists at the higher levels of management to this day. 😉

Enjoy your retirement my friend 😀

    Re: What Price Loyalty

Whilst I was employed at Hotpoint, when ever there was a collection for someone who was leaving the company or to have a baby, going into hostpital, getting engaged, married or for whatever reason I always contributed and a a general rule sent a card/flowers privately.

During the whole of 2004 I was absent from work due to lung and back problems.Durring this time Hotpoint paid my full salary, but I did not receive any contact from management or my colleagues.
.If fact I received more contact from IADOM and he was part on the competition
When I retired my supervisor contacted me to say he was arranging a farewell get together. I am still waiting

As mentioned previously I did all a young apprentice electrician could do to help the union when called on to do.
When I need them where are they?
