I have an ancient Whirlpool W120 washing machine and recently it started leaking from the back of the tub seal at the 6 o’clock position. I removed the metal band and removed the drum and tried to seal it using regular silicone sealant but it failed pretty quickly. Then I tried debor rubber sealant and this also still leaked. I have inspected the rubber seal and it appears to be in good condition.

I was just wondering is there and particular sealant that I should be using? The tub itself is plastic as is the back plate. So it is really just to fill the gap between the rubber seal and the plastic drum. Thanks for any help.

I would suggest replacing the seal… I would say that no form of sealant is going to be good enough for that job in the long term
