Most of the old Zanussi’s were very reliable, i’ve worked on a 30y old Zannusi Z9191T model & a 32 y’old Miele washer

0307 again.
Not sure exactly the reasoning behind your questions though Martin? 😕

Thanks for you contribution Martin
No real reason for the question, just thought it would be interesting to see the results..

Never heard, or seen a 0307 till few minutes ago courtesy of YouTube…
What a simple looking machine, but it never had a drain pump?
Great wash action thoughSeptember 15, 2012 at 5:31 pm #381327iadom

Second the Hotpoint Empress and add the Hotpoint 1502 with the Controls Company timer as the best top loader.

Question is a bit like “Who was your favourite Bond”? Most would say the first one they ever saw.
I think with this, those that grew up with the old Hoover/Hotpoints of the 60’s 70’s would give their favourites.
With Hoover, I would think they each had their own strong & weak points. The good old 3224/3226 were over-engineered lovely bit of kit but a lot to go wrong.
The next generation with the planet gears etc on the motor, 3208, 3203H, 3223H etc were a nightmare. Rusting tubs, poor quality timers, motor clutches noisy etc.
Then there was the “Matchbox” range, 3236H, 3243H etc. These were my favourites. Not for reliability, but were very functional, and fairly easy to work on.
Evolved into the 100 range, then it started to go pear-shaped. Poor bearings (tapered) design, A3008, A3060/3062. Then the 80’s with A3112 etc with poor mechanism on fascia/control for the door opening due to the plastic fulcrum that used to break.
I suspect a lot of answers will come from engineers who were familiar with the product & loved working on them.

Mine was a Candy 262. If I ever see one again I’ll likely break down as it truly was enough to drive a grown man to tears. 😉

Doubt if any of you guys were familiar with this machine but the Bosch VT570 was THE best washer dryer of any I have known. Built like a brick outhouse, easy to work on, simple in operation. Proper direct condenser drying system inside the drum (non of this fan assisted fluff chamber crap). Massive drum, bearings never failed, induction motor/clutch unit with enough torque to drive a ferris wheel. Fully removable double skinned front and side panels (outer panels white stove enamel. Inner panels sheet steel)
And because they were expensive to buy and needed lots of space only the rich and famous bought them ( from Harrods mostly). So access and getting paid to fix them never an issue but more a pleasure………..Happy days! 8)

Not sure that Hotpoint & Hoover were the most reliable, its more likely that because they were a British machine and very common, with parts being readily available for them making them easy to repair, but they were in my humble opinion not a good as the aforementioned appliances, how many Hotpoints or Hoovers have you seen over 30 y’old?
I’ve seen many many Hoover & Hotpoints but by time for the 30 candles they were rusted through.September 17, 2012 at 9:00 pm #381335iadom

I have seen several Hotpoint Empresses that were 40 or 50 years old in full working order and without any rust either. 😛

About a year ago I got called to a zanussi SL218T circa 1980ish still on a D&G policy and still working apart from “A knocking noise every now and then” turned out the tin worm had gotten hold and a suspension leg support had rotted and broken off the cabinet bottom so I had to finally give it its last rites!. I myself have an Zanussi WDJ1074 bought in 1992 and have only replaced the brushes on/off and door switch in all this time. Not a chance of their latest offerings doing the same though!.
