ParticipantI am in desperate need of a new washing machine as my Bosch has just packed up 😥
Can you help me chose the best washing machine for me?
I – I wash clothes for 2 adults and a 7 month old baby.
2 – I do approx 4-5 loads a week.
3 – Every other day I will wash a load on 60. This is because I use reusable nappies on my baby and will always wash these on 60. Occasionally 90.
Otherwise all other washing is usually on a 30 wash.
4 – I need a spin cycle, as I usually spin the nappies before washing. I need the washing machine to wash well for obvious reasons (dirty nappies).
5 – I would like the machine to last approx 5 years or more.
6 – my family have no allergies /special needs.I have no idea really what sort of price I would be expected to pay. I want a good machine but not ridiculously expensive.
Any advice would be much appreciated.Thank you

It depends what you think of as ridiculously expensive. A sub £350 machine that only lasts 3 to 5 years is ridiculously expensive compared to £900 machine like the ISE that is guaranteed for 10 years but will be likely to last 20 or more. 😉
You really do only get what you pay for.
. Another Bosch is the second best option.

CazYou’re probably the ideal person to complete my survey on washing machines! 🙂 It may give you some ideas too.. http://www.survey.bris.ac.uk/uclan/wmsurvey
Working out how much laundry you are doing each week vs how long you want the machine to last is something only you can decide. I found out today it costs £3.50 to do a single wash in a launderette. That would equate to over £900 in one year alone. It makes the suggestion made by IADOM seem very sensible.

At a cost of around 50 pence per wash, that equates to a more rational £130 per year. The average life of a modern washing machine is 6 years and therefore does £520 of washing in its lifetime. The average replacement cost is £300 so every 6 years it costs in the region ( give or chuck) £820 to do the washing at home!
I believe there are statistics published somewhere here on this site that show how the ISE 10 machine fairs against these averages. (though I can’t find it right now) But it shows that by buying a more expensive, better quality machine like the ISE, then the annual running costs are reduced by some margin thanks mainly to its reliability and extended life expectancy.
